I went junk yard hopping this morning for a set of front axle shafts (d30) for my 89 XJ. I found a set from a 99-2000 xj so I bought them both. I was just told the axles may be different because I don't have ABS. I don't know if the donor XJ had ABS because it was all chopped up, no cab, firewall or master cylinder, it was just the front axle and a piece of frame. Did I screw up?
I picked up both whole axle assembly's will they swap in?

d-44
and the chrysler 8.25
ABS or no ABS doesnt matter except non-abs wont have a tone ring and your abs wont work anymore.
Search, its your friend not your enemy, well unless your a lazy ass:flipoff2:

they will work.. the only thing different is a tone ring, that is on the stub shaft.. you should be able to knock it off, and place it on yours.. if you have abs.. if you dont.. knock the tone ring off the spares

Yeah like he said they should work fine. If they dont have a tone ring dont expect your ABS to work, and expect the abs light to turn on. But for spares and to get you home/out to pavement whatever you will be able to use them just fine.
It's still newbie talk though:D

Here's an idea, how about you pull the shafts out & compare...
Always better to be familiar with your set up in the shop environment, than on a dark dusty trail...;)
