: Rockwells and decent speed... I have searched!!!
drasko 10-11-2003, 08:03 PM As for now, my plan is to run a 350/th400/dana 300/rockwell setup with 44's. The thing is, i will wanna take this out on the street every now and then and to drive to the closer wheelin spots. On the calculators, it says I'll be at 7 some od thousand at 55 mph. I know my gearing is low but i know i've read about guys down 60 on rockwells so I'd like to know if im firgurin this out wrong or and i gonna be changin my setup and what do you guys run with your rockwells to be able to get a decent speed when nedded??
TH400 1st: 2.48
2nd:1.48
3rd:1.0
Dana 300 1st:2.62
Rockwells: as you know the only ratios 6.72
Thanx in advance

did you calculate it with the t-case in low?
350 Samurai 10-11-2003, 08:26 PM Uhhh...take it out of low range.
EDIT: You beat me too it, squirreljeep. :flipoff2:
Mechanos 10-11-2003, 08:56 PM
Now that was some funny shit!!!
Hickeyjones 10-11-2003, 08:58 PM so you guys are saying the d300 is a 2 speed t-case? hmmm, could you show me how to shift it?:flipoff2:
toy283 10-11-2003, 09:48 PM Hmmm, my calcs show 60mph @ ~3100 rpm.
drasko 10-11-2003, 11:24 PM Shit...my bad...i did have the calc in low......my bad folx..
Not really sure what the fuck i was thinkn. Thanx for the reality check. Later
Peabody 10-11-2003, 11:42 PM LMAO! That's some funny chit!
Heavy Metal Toy 10-12-2003, 01:53 AM lay off the :smokin:. :flipoff2:
Bigger Valves 10-12-2003, 08:49 AM you gotta take in to account tire size too.. what size are u using for your calculations?
Scout8hundred 10-12-2003, 09:25 AM It says 44's in the first post, and since he's running rockwells I get the impression he meant tires.:flipoff2:
drasko 10-12-2003, 01:25 PM BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO I MEANT DANA 44's.
OK back to the matter at hand. They are rockwells and they new 44" shoes on them. Read throroughly next time...
My friends always ask me why i can be a cocky asshole and i just say that i'm blessed.
apeters89 10-12-2003, 02:09 PM I don't see how you think you can get cocky after showing us all your wonderful math skills above :flipoff2: ;)

yeah but my guess is a 44 is maybe 42" then take into acount the loaded radius with a heavy ass rig running rockwells and they are gonna end up acting like a 39-40" tire on the road.
IF you gotta run on the road get a built 700r4
steve gerstner 10-12-2003, 03:59 PM The 2 1/2 ton rockwells with 44" tires and 700R4 with overdrive is the only way to go. There are alot of trucks here in FL. using this setup that are used on the road 90% of the time, as long as they do not use pinion brakes, it will burn the pinion seals right out of them. steve
drasko 10-12-2003, 09:40 PM Everyone messes up sometimes apeters89. How about you go get a 3.5 in mechanical engineering at a top 10 school for the subject in the nation. I can be cocky if i damn well please.
Now back to the TECH PART OF IT. I dont plan on runnin this like the FL boys(90% street). I will have a pinion brake set up on both ends and the only reason i ask is the 2lane i take to work has a 55mph and i'd like to hold that at least sometimes if i have to drive it to work one day. This is not a street rig. Just an occasional toy.

My dad can beat up your dad. :flipoff2:
BTW, Isn't your school color purple? :rainbow:
Pete
That is nice that you have to say top ten:flipoff2:
Try doing it @ number one if you want to brag:D
INtj
drasko 10-13-2003, 04:05 PM OK..back to the subject....fuck yall and the color is purple...so go fuck yourself...and i didnt brag..just made a point....dont talk shit on someones lil mistake....if you wanna play high school bullshit..then go there....if not...then lets get back to tech. maybe someone will start doin grammatical errors while were at it too!!
PS:My dad will kick the shit out of your dad!

Amen Brother!!!
Only a 3.5:rolleyes: why not higher?
Violent91 10-13-2003, 05:36 PM Good lord.
Thats gotta be screwup of the day!
EDIT: Someone needs to make a 'screw up of the day' award image...this guy demands it!
Looks like you've got a 2.0 in common sense.:flipoff2:
drasko 10-13-2003, 06:40 PM Well, its hard to get a 4.0 unless you know romanion, german, czech, french, japanese, and so on fluently. Every one of my professors primary language is something other than english. Dorta sux when you're tyrin to go over calc 4 and ask a question to the professor and he explains in bylingaul answers. You guys have that problem INtj?
Just wondering if its just kstates prob.

OK, smart guy - i am moving to the top of the class. 44" tires at 55 MPH with brakes at the wheels, the rotor is 420 RPM when you use the brake. 44" tires at 55 MPH with pinion brakes, the rotor is 2,822 RPM when you use the brake. Class dismissed. steve differential eng. inc.

Lots of recessed anger here; Is it because you dont get laid much? Or because you're making up for something? Or both. Thats entirely possible as well judging from your reactions. You could just delete the post and pretend it never happens....
God knows I do :flipoff2:

Steve from diff_eng
holy fawk that rotor is going hard!

Shit man, I started the club! CJ Lagos, ECF, brutus, and myself were the founding members of said club. Not sure who started first, but I think I had mine rolling around before any of them, dunno for sure...

Halogrinder 10-14-2003, 09:28 PM ok ok im a little new to the rockwell scene, i think my next truck is gonna have them.....what if you use some real high dollar pinon brakes....meaning crossdrilled, slotted, vented rotors, with 4 or 6 piston brake calipers (aluminum).....think this would help out? how difficult is it to replace the pinon seal? thanks

Thats asking quite a bit, and if the rotors are cold they will shatter. Its the equivalent of going 370~ mph with brakes at the wheels, only there is only one of them  Thats a LOT of friction.
Drag racers run into big problems with this (Hence the chute). One solution is a carbon fiber disc and all sorts of other fancy stuff, light and eliminates fade. The price is disgusting if I recall correctly. And they have smaller tires, with less rotating mass, and the dragster is a WHOLE lot lighter. Im leaning towards no, but I've never done it.
Halogrinder 10-15-2003, 10:53 AM true its gonna be goin fast, but the presssure put to the braking force shouldnt be that much, since its gonna be using the gears as the reduction....so....i dunno just trying to weigh my options, still need to figure out how hard it is to replace the pinion seal....
elf_cruiser 10-15-2003, 11:36 AM geeesh, this is like beating a dead horse...
theory bleh!!!
here's the scoop - I have been using a single 1/2 ton chevy brake caliper and rotor on my rear pinion, no front brakes, for over 2 years. The pads show no noticeable wear, and I have driven it down the highway on trips in excess of one hour with no noticeable brake fade. I have also flat towed it many, many miles with no brake pad wear. The gearing negates all of the other arguments... It does build up enough heat to cook pinion seals, mine leaks like crazy, but they are cheap and easy to change.
Search and you'll find that those of us who have pinion brakes love them, run all kinds of different setups and they all seem to work well. Those who DON'T have pinion brakes just like to sit around and ponder the implications...
Halogrinder 10-15-2003, 12:14 PM SO NOW WE ARE GETTING SOMEWHERE
