I have a long drive train so I want to mount my engine as far forward as posible, but what would be the minimum safe distance between the radiator and fan? Where I am planning to place it I have about 2" wiht the radiator mount in the stock location. I could move the radiator forward some to get more room. Is this too close <IMG SRC="smilies/question.gif" border="0">

Is the 2" between the fan and radiator? As others told me you can slot the holes inthe rad support to move it further forward. If you can get a bit over 4" total clearance between the ENGINE and the rad, I would pull the mechanical fan and use a Black Magic electric fan.
If you do stick with a mechanical - make a shroud. Oh yea - and use a rigid fan, not a flex fan.

mines way forward, i slotted my rad. mounts..i have a 17" flex fan, but im gonna put on a 18" stiff fan w/ more blades..its fine driving around, 185-190 all the time, but off road, it climbs

The 2" is from the radiator (4 row cross flow) to a stock Chevy clutch fan. What I am worried about is the fan hitting the radiator under torque. Is this a problem that I should be worried about? I have seen alot of fans hit radiators, but usually flex fans at water crossings. I could also ditch the clutch fan and probably get another inch or so with a short spacer. Will the black magic fans cool a 350 on the trail?
