I was just posting on Gen. dissc. on the Tow rig post and thought it would be cool to see some built fj45s for towing or wheeling?????

That would be sweet but, the hard part is finding a 45 thats reasonably priced. I know I would love to have one!!!

My friend Chad Koehn in British Columbia is about 3/4 through the buildup of an FJ45 LWB tow rig. He intends to use it to tow his BJ42 around. I'll check with him and see if he's got any teaser pictures he wants to share...

That is a rig I would love to build!
I've tossed the concept around and have even found a beater longbed to start on, but too many projects, not enough time!

I've got dozens of pics from Costa Rica of BJ40's converted to tow trucks with ff rears. Most fabricate their own FJ45 style tops by using the rear hardtop corners and hacking the tops to fit. Don't recollect seeing any FJ45 tow trucks. I'll have to dig out and scan someday.

i plan on building my '65 up to tow my fj40..its gonna get a fuel injected 350, either NV4500 or TH400, NP205, sprung over, 35's, dont know about axles, probably a stock disc brake cruiser axle up front w/ a semi floating 14 bolt (if it's 6 lug) in the back, or get a dana 60 like the one 71RCKCRZR made.. then paint it so it loooks gooooood.

When I say tow rig I mean a rig used to tow your wheelin rig not a tow truck with a boom. But if you have pics that would be sweet.

I was thinking of something like take an F350 standard cab powerstroke frame and running gear, leave it diesel and put an FJ45 cab made into an extended cab (add 12in. to rear of body) and put a short box bed behind it. It would cost way too much money for the end result but it would be a badass rig for sure. Then just throw some 38-16-16.5 TSLs on it and tow all you want.

It is taking far too much time, and it will be a while before I am finished, but I am currently building an FJ45 that will serve as the tow rig for an FJ45 Thats right -- I am building a set of FJ45 "twins" (my wife calls them Danny and Arnold after the movie Twins). The trail truggy is short and wide and the tow rig will be the normal LWB length. I have all the parts for the truggy. I still need to round up the drivetrain for the tow rig. I hope to run a big-block Vortec with a 4L80E transmission and NP4xx transfer case. When completed, both trucks will have identical paint schemes so as to maintain the twin theme.

Too many plans and too little time

Oh My! Where do I get one of those Ozy beds for my 45? Could you send close up pictures. I have not designed mine yet but that looks great!

that is a traditional style Ozy truck bed,it is made of aluminium.
The sides drop down or can come off so it can be a flat bed (note in the case of this truck as it has tubs in the floor )

I will find some more shots for you
