Ok I got a free 6.2L diesel truck. Its an 85...

Anyways I am thinking of making a tube flat bed for it and it might make a decent tow rig. Maybe put a turbo on it later...

Anyways it had some real old diesel ran through it, I drained the tanks and it was PINK.

Now it won't start...I was thinking maybe the injection pump? Injectors are gelled up?

How much would you guestimate fixing it would be? I don't want to dump alot of $$ in this, just want a cheap simple tow rig. :D

i would suggest that you make sure you have all the air out of the system and tell us what it is doing when you try to start it. do not use ether on this motor, it will go:nuke: :nuke: you can use a little but of wd40 sprayed in the air cleaner to see if it will hit. brake cleaner works better but you have to use caution with any of them. if it will hit on the brake cleaner, you have a fuel problem. it really sounds like you need a diesel mech buddy to give you a hand. mike

Its been along time since i had mine but you need to bleed the fuel system. Unhook the wire going to the injector pump and open a bleeder that i cant remember where and turn the motor over until you have steady fuel and then hook the wire back up and start it. It will smoke and rattle for a few seconds but will clear up. The pink fuel doesnt mean squat, its just dyed offroad fuel (nontax)

Have you ever seen the truck run? Did it quit running when you drained the tank?

Depending on temperature, give it ~1/4-1/2 throttle when starting.

If you've never seen it run, I'd first make sure the glow plugs are getting power. Put a volt meter on one of the leads, and have a friend turn the ignition to on, they should get power for a few seconds (when the dash light is on).

If there is air in the lines, you will have to bleed them. Crack all the lines at the injectors and crank till fuel comes out, then tighten.

junk that 6.2L, it wouldn't be able to get out of its own way......240 lbs torque and 170 horse.....weak....even with a banks turbo, you'd only be gaining about 80 foot lbs...........

Bullshit...the 6.2 is no Cummins by any means, but they pull just fine for what they are...
