Well over the last few weeks my 10 month old Pit Bull/Boxer/Dalmation has become increasingly agressive with my 3 year old Australian Cattledog (both females). I have had the young one for over 4 months with hardly any problems other than the occasional jealousy over a toy. Well the wife calls at work today to say that one of them had their dew claw ripped off in a fight that she couldn't break up. And she had become food agressive to the other dog. Sweetest dog in the world, just not good with another dog in the house I guess....
Nothing changed, I guess she was just not wanting to be the beta dog anymore (the older has established dominance, or so we thought).
Oh well life goes on, learned my lesson about trying to be a 2 dog family.

Heck, try being a 4 dawg family:eek:
Chow/Lab/Shepard mix-8 yrs.
Bassett Hound-4 yrs.
Chiauauauaua-2 yrs.
Daschund-1 yr.
The young one pushes around the other three. He plays with the two big ones, they double team him and he still whups their butts. But throw a cat into the mix and it gets real ugly real fast.

Well, you can't really say it's because the dog was part pit bull. I have 3 of them. one male and 2 females. I have never had any problems with them. They co-exist with a cat that eats out of the same food bowl as them. This has been going on for over a year. for the people on here that know my dogs they will also tell you they get along great. For the past couple years I have taken Tank (my male) on the trails with me. Just a couple winters ago he got punked by a jack russel terrior (owner drives an old ass blue bronco. I forgot his name) on Iron Mountain. He just turned his head and looked at me. He knew I would yell at him if he was bad. I think part of it is that when you have more than one dog in the house you have to make sure you give them both lots of attention or they will get more aggressive.

We've got 5....
Two German Shepards
Two Mini Schnauzer's
One Pug
Only 1 female, smallest of them all and thinks she is a shepard. LOL
All of ours get along great thank goodness, but there is definately a pecking order.

its all about personality, knowing your current dogs' hierarchy , reading the potential new dog, and anticipating recations.
we had at one point three (neutered) males, and not a single tussle.
everybody knew thier place, right away, with out any challenges.
ultimateley the third addition had to be put down for heatlh reasons, but while he was here the origional 2 were very happy and all were healthier because they played very hard together.

2 females are much more agressive than 2 males. My 2 current males did the fight in the house thing  omfg it was HORRID.... blood and broken chit all over the ex. Called ex hubby to help after the fight was still going for 10mins. These 2, a rottie/lab mix and a bullmastiff were best buds for 5 weeks till that fight. Couldn't manage to find homes for either one and cannot do a sheter drop so I still have them both separated and a cattle prod handy.
I've mixed males b4 years ago and after some spats (nothing that requied a vet bill like this last one) they established who was Alpha and fights stopped.
Good luck.

we used to have 4, although one died recently (old age). 2 males and 2 females. They still get along fine, at one time they used to get on each others nerves but they even get along with the cats (5 of em) now.
