: How Many TLCA Events
LC Hamma 12-12-2001, 09:54 AM Have you driven your cruiser on in one given year
I did 3 last year - CM '00, GSMTR '00 & TMC '00. The year before
I attended 3 as well - BHCC '99, GSMTR '99 & TMC '99. This year
none  My main trail rig has been down for improvements.
Axle, tranny/tcase adaptor, & other mods.... Lets hear 'em.
Hey Chuck...
I drove my 82 Hilux to Cruise Moab, lead the Friday at 9 run on Rubithon and hosted the first running of the TLCA McGrew Trail Ride (all of which I drove my truck to).
I would have made the Gambol but it was cancelled.
Next year should be a good year for TLCA runs as the runs that were cancelled or failed due to permitting issues should be back with vengance.
Many folks shy away from these large runs... I think they are a gas with a large group of your buddies or club members. I too prefer the smaller runs but the large events can be a lot of fun.
I have never made it to BH or GSMTR but I hear they are the best runs and the folks putting them on are top notch.
wngrog 12-12-2001, 10:56 AM I like going to TLCA events to see the rigs and meet all the friends I make on the net.
GSMTR is cool, no hard core inspections and no organized trail rides.
I went to CM 2001 this year. It was cool because it was in Moab.
I really didn't dig the organized trail ride thing very much, except Elephant Hill due to all the history on that ride.
Other than that, too slow and too conservative for my wheeling tastes.
I am going back to Moab during the Cruise Moab week again this year, but I am mainly going to see frineds and Cruisers.
Doubt I will do the trail rides.
Hey Chuck, I was a TMC in 2000. What does your rig look like? i am sure we met, there were so few of us there.
I drove my FZJ-80, did we meet?

Well, if I would pay my $20.00 to get my other name "LC Hamma"
& my avatar back up, you could see it  I can't post
attachments yet, so, its on www.dakotacruisers.com under
BHCC '99. Click on thumbnail pics & go to the Kong trail ;)
I can't remember meeting anyone w/an 80  :flipoff2: JK.
I could only make it up for one day of wheelin' & the raffle on
Saturday :(
woody 12-12-2001, 12:27 PM Never done a TLCA sanctioned ride personally....working on scheduling tho to hit the BHCC this year. Gotta see if those rocks are up to the challenge.... :D :D
Besides, mine is a trailer queen anyways...driving it on the road might give me rock dings or get it covered in road grime....yuck....
SpaceGhost 12-14-2001, 05:47 AM I'm like woody, trailered, everywhere, even and hour away. How smart do you have to be, to choose the new crew cab powerstroke over the cruiser for road trips? Besides DOT requires windshields.
Did GSMTR last 2 years, the only obstacle I didn't get to do was Slick Rock or hard Rock whatever it is called, due to a heavy downpour and some broken heaps blocking the trail. I probably would have had to winch in the rain, and at least a 50% of winching in the dry. There was a "tech inspection". They looked for all the important items and made sure they worked. I agree it wasn't very intense, since I didn't hear of any rejections or repairs mandated.
I really hope to get West, Rubithon is 1st on the list, but BHCC is at least twice as close. Moab, as beautiful as it is falls further down the list. The Gambol would be fun to, since I like Vegas. Just too bad it's 2 full days of driving each way!
Tenative plans include a run over to Paragon, maybe in the spring. Looks to be about as far as Tellico for me, and the claims are of similar terrain.
Would really enjoy meeting "some" of the people from the net and pouring over the many Cruisers.

gunracer1 12-14-2001, 07:28 AM man space ghost you need to register that thing in texas. they don't require a windsheild. just a clear field of view. i thought i would get hassed for it in colorado or utah this year but no problems. just a bunch of strange looks when you drive a fj62 without a windsheild or top. but the best was in moab i was at the down town square area and a guy keeps staring at my rig and driving around and staring some more. he finally stops and asks if i was in clayton oklahoma memorial day weekend. i said yea, and he said he knew there couldn't have been two like that. but it does suck to drive to the trail head when its 30 degs and raining. mike

Having been to gsmtr in 00 and living an hour from paragon I can say paragon offers more of pure rockcrawling than tellico, but tellico has more muddy rocks which gives new meaning to the word "slickrock" but thats another story.
I don't know if you guys remember me but I met you spaceghost and wngrog waiting at the pay phone at gsmtr00, my orange cruiser had 35 boggers on at the time.
Hope to see some of you out here someday I'll buy the
rich
SpaceGhost 12-15-2001, 05:49 AM Hi Rich,
I didn't know it was you, by nick, but certainly remember talking with you. Especially the fine workmanship and top quality plumbing on your Cruiser.
One of our Hoosier Cruiser members recently moved east after accepting a promotion at work. He has been wheeling with some of the Yankee Toys and is hoping to coordinate a multi club get together in the spring at Paragon. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
This is not going to conflict with the organized event held in the summer, and hopefully will attract attention to it.
Hope to see you again on the trails,
Mike "SpaceGhost" Smythe
Jettech 12-15-2001, 06:04 AM I drove to BHCC once ,that drive sucked and it was only 300 mi.
I probly wont go to anymore cause of the "Rules" ,No Beer,no Dogs, and imagine this you have to have parking brakes, and a spare tire:D:D
I might go out to cruise Moab during that week ,Maybe Nolen and I can hook up out there this year.

I am going to be in Moab the last week in April through the first week in May.
I am planning on hooking up with Jason Mace out there on Monday-Wed before Cruise Moab and running Upper Proving Grounds and the Helldorado trails.
DEFINATELY plan on coming out then.....put in for vacation or whatever so we can hit the hard stuff before the rest of the crew comes out.
My wife and kid are coming out on Wed night so I plan on being a TLCA guy for the end of the week, but at the beginning, I want to GET IT with some of the Big Boys!!
