What is the best way to remove stickers\decals from your bike\vehicle and not damage the finish underneath?

3M pinstriping removal wheel. This is what we use in our body shop w/ perfect results. Use a die grinder w/ 10k rpm or air controller to slow a fast die grinder down. Call you local auto body supply they should have it

OH OH I am a sticker SLUT :flipoff2:

1. park car in direct sun
2. take some soapy water
3. spray sticker until it is soaking wet
4. use thumb nail very slowly to start a corner, keep spraying soapy water on sticker and pull

It will come right off

What's the wheel made of? Can it be used on any material? I want to take a couple of decals off my bike but don't want to mark the black fairing underneath.

another vote for the 3m wheel. they are 20 bucks and will last a long time. i peeled off all the uber gay decals on my 79 toy with one wheel. made short work of it.

Heat gun and fingernail, roll the decal back on itself starting at a corner.

Works well for me with bumper stickers, and my neighbor used it to remove decals all down the side of his truck that advertised some kind of business. They had been there so long the paint had faded, yet they peeled right off with some heat.

so, will that wheel help take off large decals like this?

That was what I was just wondering. Mind you my decals aren't nearly as large as yours but are much more then pinstrips.

have you seen the decals they put on 79 toys? there is a 8-9 1" wide strips going up the hood, on the door, and following down the bed. they were so baked on that the wheel was the only thing that would take it off.

Yes it will take the stickers off but will do nothing for the confused sexuality of the owner:flipoff2:

Seriously I have had to repair paint jobs after people tried a heat gun and left it on there too long. $20 for the wheel and no probs ever.

I second the GooGone for the smaller stuff.

A bondo spreader to get most fo the sticker off and the googone to get rid of the sticky stuff.

As for the big stickers, a heat gun will fawk up paint, put a girly hair dryer on low should soften stuff up enought to start peeling...

Well yeah, that's a factor too I guess, if the individual using it is ummmm "gifted?" :flipoff2:

You're right though, the wheel is more user friendly. I equate the wheel to a dremel and the heat gun to an angle grinder ;)

I took some BIG graphics off a car with the goo gone, I also had some good luck with WD-40. The graphics were vinyl and were about 8 inches wide and ran from the turn signals up front to the tailights in back, it took about 2 and a half hours to get em all off.

Looking at the shank on that, I don't think it would fit my dremel. Are there different shank sizes available. No air tools in my shop, it's all muscle power!

I have taken off dealer stickers with a heat gun and goo gone.

As long as you aren't a complete moron, you shouldn't screw up your paint this way. I did this about 3 years ago to my current car and you can't tell the sticker was ever there.

i used my wifes blowdryer on high & my fingernail to raise an edge then as i was peeling off the stickers i kept the blowdryer pointed on the part of the sticker that was about to peel off and they came off very easily. then used some wd40 to remove any glue residue. then waxed it. worked great & easy. i also did this at night when it was about 50 deg outside and without the blowdryer there was no way the stickers were coming off. even a complete moron wont screw up the paint with a hair blowdryer.

well I don't think I'm a complete moron, I tried both the hair dryer method and non hair dryer. the only difference is the ease that the decal came off. still had damage to the underlying paint, but, I feel that the paint was weak in areas and the decal removal just finished them off. heres the results

all the grey spots are where the paint came up

Got lots of bottles of Googone at work. I use the WD40 instead. Faster and cleans up with a bit of rubbing alcohol.

Can minimize the work if you've got a high pressure washer. It'll take off most of a sticker, leaving only a bit of residue and maybe fragments to deal with.

Your problem wasn't with the process you used to remove the decals, it was the shitty paint on those trucks. There was nothing else you could have done.:(

I'm trying to find someone local thats got the paint gun and paint hookup

alot of the fords have two tone paint, top middle bottom, where the top and bottom are the same color. right now we are just debating on what color to paint the middle. I say grey, my wife is saying kawasakii green like my jeep.
