I want to run the widest tires and wheels possible. I have a 72 FJ40 with stock axles. I have plenty of clearance and horsepower to run 35's, it is the width and backspacing that I need help on. I would like to run 35X17.50 MT on 15X12 wheels. What backspacing?? What king of rubbing will I experience?? I play in water and sand, no rocks no mud. If 17.50's are too wide, what is the widest you guys suggest?:usa:

2" backspacing is as wide as any responsible wheel maker will make a wheel.
This will get you wide enough where you will not experience rubbing of the drag link or inner tub in the rear.
As for tires....I have never seen 35 x 17.50's, what kind are you refering to?
Swamper makes a 35 x 16 Bogger (BIG for a 35" tire) and a 35 x 15.50 SX (small for a 35" tire)

The old MT Baja Belted tires come that wide. I think that's what he's referring to.

The Mickey Thompson baja belted series offers 35X17.50-LT, though I have never seen these mounted on wheels or a cruiser. That is why I was asking you FINE professional's advice!

Getting smart Newbie :flipoff2: ???
OK, wide it is.
The only rubbing would be if you did not get wheels with backspacing of less than 3.25".
If you do less BS than that you will get the wheels away from anything on the frame, steering or brakes you could rub on.
Next you need to limit your limited uptravelon your articulation as these tires will stick out a ton and rub like hell on uptravel.
This is easily accomplished by exteding your bumpstops to keep the tires out of the fenders.
Please post a picture of your Cruiser when you get all this wideness installed!
