: Mounting a Chevy Column in a 80.....

The plan is to pick up a PS box this weekend.
Then the fabbing begins on the Chevy Truck column.

I mocked it up today (Seat & Column).
It looks like just some minor trimming on the cab side mount, & the dash.

The seats will be mounted to the two tube crossmembers (part of the cage).
One thing I'm worried about is the height of the front crossmember (the hump is a little high).
After the trim, the column should sit about 1/2"-1" higher.
In the picts, it's pretty centered (tilt wise).

Now, the other major problem I have has to due with the column key/starter/ignition set up.
The shaft to the igniton sits (shaft to wires) in the middle of the firewall.

I figure I have three options:
1. Cut out part of the firewall. *However, I think i'd have to cut/trim part of the air intake housing as well. :P
2. Relocate it by either lengthening or shortening the shaft.
3. Forget aobut it & put in a Dash ignition switch.

I'm leaning toward #2, but have no idea if it will work.

I cut the ignition stuff off, and used a dash ignition.

I just left the switch gear in the middle of the firewall. trimed the sheet metal a bit and had the wife sew up a vinyl boot to seal the hole off

crappy pic but you get the idea.
