I have a 71 FJ40 that I want to put shoulder belts in. I just put in some new bucket seats and need some ideas of what belts I could use and where I can mount them. I've seen some shoulder belts mounted to the cage, but I don't know how to mount them there without some sort of bracket or something. There aren't any attachment points on my cage. I would also be open to using a five point harness, but once again I don't know where to attach it. Any ideas would be great.....Thanks.

I have a budy who has four point harnesses that are mounted behind his seat on the floor. I don't remeber what brand they were. Does anyone have anypictures of thier harneses mounted to the cage?

It's not recomended to mount the shoulder straps on the floor. They should be mounted to the cage and the mounting points should be a couple of inches below your shoulders.

run a bar accross the rear hoop of the cage...right behind the seats. on mine its hard because my seats are far back..well my d-side one is. but im plannin on stuffing a bar back there if/when i want harnesses.

Mine just attach to the bar by looping the strap around and then trhough the buckle, sorry no pics. The side straps mount to the floorboards as does the front....was real simple...

I've got 4-point harness's with racing buckets. Harness has been bolted into the floor behind the seat for years.

I have heard that it is not recomended to mount them on the floor ethier, but Mine came with really long shoulder straps, so that the only way was to mount them down low. If they make them like that it can't be too bad.;)

I've seen some with the holes or brackets on the roll bar, but mine doesn't have them. I have seen some belts mounted to a part of the cage that runs directly behind the front seats but I don't have that bar either. Someone suggested drilling and tapping holes to mount the belts to but I would think that might weaken the cage quite a bit. Thanks for the info so far....

I have always thought that you should mount the harness about 3 inches above your shoulders. If you mount them lower, you can break your collarbone in a roll over. I broke mine in a ATV accident.....hurt like hell!!!!!!!!

The instructions that came with my 4 point harness said to mount it a few inches below your shoulders (I think something like not more than 6). That said, I mounted mine through the roll bar crossbar I already had which was about 18" below shoulder height.
What about insurance? A friend of mine told me that if I put anything resembling a "racing harness" in my truck, then my insurance would charge me more (not that I would tell them, but...). I can see the logic. If you think you need harnesses, then I guess they label you as a higher risk...
Anyone??
