I'm interested in running the unit bearing Dana 60 outers on my rig to make it easier to change shafts. Anyone running these on a rock buggy? My biggest concern is breaking the outer shaft. Anyone have a problem with them? Sources? I hear Jason Paule is selling some, but why wouldn't I just source them from Ford Dana 50 parts???

I have em under my 96 ram deisel, they are expensive when they wear out although you probably won't worry about that on a rock buggy. the stubs are pretty solid looking and splined into the hub for most of their length so they "probably" won't break too easy.
I'm not sure how this makes the shaft changes easier though?? I've had mine out and they were a royal pita, rusted in, noway to pry on em ect.

seen two of them broken at last RCAA event .it did make it easy for them to change shafts, it only took them 10 min each time.

A few people are running them. Currie makes a 35 spline outer and Randys should have one soon. Once upgraded to 35 spline outer, I haven't seen any problems.

I was concerned at first, but they seem to be holding up well.

I've been running mine for 1 1/2 years with no problems, but this has been on a early Bronco trail rig. I got mine off a '99 F250 D50, and had Currie machine them down to 5 on 5.5. Currie also bored and broached the outer for a chromo 35 spline outer shaft, and pressed it into the stock yoke.

When I saw John in Pomona, he said they will have complete chromo 35 spline outers soon.

The outer stub has a large seal that seats into the outer knuckle pretty snug. Are the comp guys deleting this seal? I had to pound my axles through the knuckle, to get them out.

i run a dodge unit bearing outer setup, turned down to 6 lug,

the drawback is they run a 33sp stub, but it's only 4inches long. and has a nut tightening it into the bearing, 7 bolt removal, takes under a minuite to totally tear the front end down.

i had cro-mo stub's made though i never had a failure with the spicers, just severly stretched yokes. if i remember right, curt hildebrant run's the same outer's on his rig.

We bored the I.D. of the unit bearing out enough to run custom 1.5",35 spline stubs. These things are stout, the u-joint grenades before the stub even thinks about twisting.

So you just sourced the parts @ Dodge? Might not be too bad with a jobber price. What did you have to buy, bearing, shaft, and nut? I could run stock shafts for the rest of the year and upgrade later. I wouldn't mind at least having a set of 33 splines for backups. I'm pretty easy on parts although I broke two shafts this year.

It is dry here. I would just replace shafts complete innner, outer and unit bearing.
