: Slight loss in oil Pressure (460)

After alot of wheeling in deep goopucky this summer, Ive noticed the oil pressure on my 460 drop a little.

The engine is about 4 years old now after a complete rebuild. Approx 20,000 miles on it.
The oil pressure was always around 40-45 at freeway speeds. Dropped to about 25-30 on idle.
Now its around 20-25 at freeway speeds, 10-15 at idle.

Oil is changed routinely, filter too of course. Never seen any water, sand, nothing in the oil (from deep wheeling).

I did get some sand into the carb on the last run, and had to change the carb. Some did get into the engine via the carb of course.

Suggestions?

I was thinking of pulling the pan and checking the pump screen, maybe pulling a few caps off.....

How many miles are on her, and are they hard miles. It is normal for oil pressure to drop, due to a greater clearance in the bearings. I would still drop the pan and look.

Around 20K...

As far as Hard miles, well it is on 44's so I guess its not easy miles
Actually alot of those miles are with 35's for street trips

Dont know if farts are the same but with the chebbies the senders tend to go bad long before the oiling system/bearings do. They commonly read lower than actual numbers when going bad.

try this.. change oil.. add a can of reslone to it..

or that 5 min h.d. cleaner before the oil change..

did you install the hi-volume pump?

change the sender and see if that works..

or hook up a mechanical guage to it also..
