why do you want a 5 speed? I took my AX-15 out and put in a automatic TF-999 in my wrangler... But to answer your question it wouldnt be to hard... You might need to change out the input gear on the t-case though. I think the auto ones are to long atleast when i did my auto swap the 5 speed one was to short. good luck :D

Hey Rockbuggy,
I have a '98 TJ with the AX-15, and have been considering the exact same swap. Did you have any problems? Any writeup on it. Any words of advice ;)
I assume that there are no PCM inputs needed, just the output from the PCM to the converter clutch. I was actually thinking about just wiring that into a switch in the Jeep for a manual lockup.
Lastly, where did you find a TF999.

So why in the world would you wish to get rid of your auto for a stick?...

The t-case input for the AW-4 and the AX-15 or NV3550 trannies are the same. The only 999's requires a long t-case input shaft. You will need to change the diveshaft lengths. There is also a ground wire that goes into the "Park" switch of the auto tranny that needs to be jumped. You basically have to trick the computer into thinking that is is in park all the time so you can start the Jeep. This is the only thing you have to change with the wiring. I went though all of this when I put the XJ motor and accessories into my YJ.

Oh yeh, you have to make a new tranny mount. Find a donor XJ for the clutch parts.

BTW, Fred post your question as a new post, don't piggy-back a question on anothers post because no one will respond to you. Fawkin newbie :flipoff2: .
