: Tell me what you think...
Ten_Bucks 12-12-2001, 06:24 PM I was doing some work for a friend who has a bad back today and he showed me this truck that he owns. It is a 1973 Ford F-250 Standard Cab. It has no engine in it right now, but it used to have a 460 in it. It has an NP435 trans, NP205 t-case, Dana 44 front, Dana 60 rear. It also has 11 inches of lift ( 8" suspension, 3" body), and 40/17R16.5 Ground Hawgs on it. The body is perfectly straight and the paint is like new. I'm thinking about buying it. My friend will give me a smokin' deal on the price if I decide to buy it. If I do, I will have a 460 that I just got today put in it. I wish I had some pics but since I don't own a digital camera or a scanner, thats not happenin'. So, what do you think? Should I buy it? If I buy it, I was going to remove the 3" body lift and put 38" tires on it and use it as a decent rockcrawler until I get my K5 built.
Ten_Bucks 12-12-2001, 06:45 PM anyone?
riffman 12-12-2001, 06:53 PM personally, id think its too long to get a good crawler....but id say, if yer getting an awesome deal...drop the 460 in, and mud the sucker!!!
fcfred 12-12-2001, 06:53 PM buy it
our economy needs it

That was my other plan. I was also going to use it for crawling at Moab, mainly. But mostly it'll be on the 'Con. I don't care about body damage.

Sounds like you've already talked yourself into it. Buy it, drop the motor, and wheel!
Mcstiff 12-12-2001, 07:57 PM I would buy it get it running, put on a flat bed ('caus I like the looks), and wheel it till your Blazer is set up. After that make it the tow rig.
well im gonna be a dick and say with a big machine like that sell the d44 and get a d60, other than that should be sweet. somebody had to say it
NE-RokToy 12-12-2001, 08:06 PM Dude if the paint and body are seriously in good condition put the motor in it and sell it!!!! if your getting a good deal on it you could make a killing and have the cash to finish your other project!!
Lost_Soul 12-12-2001, 08:12 PM I don't know its long. I have seen alot of trucks draggin their bumpers etc in Moab. You would really be limiited to the trails you could do. But then again some wheelin is better than no wheelin. :skull: And it would probably make a great tow rig after the fact.
Bgcj5 12-12-2001, 08:25 PM I say buy it and 2 trucks is better than 1 truck in my opinion and the tow rig would be a god idea.
Ten_Bucks 12-13-2001, 02:54 PM I really never considered the tow rig idea. Thanks for the help, everybody. Any more suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again.
Rover Addiction 12-13-2001, 03:05 PM Awesome tow rig, great mudder too. I wouldn't take it on the 'con since the body panels are still straight. Sweet rig though!!

burke 12-13-2001, 03:34 PM I always thought it would be cool to get a truck and scrap the bed and hack the frame off right behind the cab. Then build a tube "cage-type-thingy" with about a 105 inch wheel base. This would also have to be integrated with the interior roll cage. Or you could do what the toyota guys do and bob the frame and bed.
Ten_Bucks 12-13-2001, 03:34 PM Like I said, I don't care about the body damage. If the body becomes that badly beat up (which I know it will), I will just swap another body on it. Don't care for the flatbed idea, though. To make it an even better crawler (!), I was going to put an ORD Doubler setup in it. It already has the NP205 for that.
MKBruin 12-13-2001, 03:59 PM hell why not buy it, drop in teh motor....wheel it hard till you blow up the front axle (with a 460 and 40's it shouldn't take long!) sell the rear 60 and pick up a set of rockwells and use it for dual purpose tow rig and hard wheeler.
c'mon man...your tow rig would be abel to out wheel most rigs trailer queened to the events!
or you could always buy it cheap, drop in the new engine, and sell it to me for the amt. you have invested plus a case of Fat Tire for your labor!
Ten_Bucks 12-13-2001, 04:08 PM Since I have decided to buy it (like you already couldn't tell), I plan on keeping it for at least a few years. I do like the idea of a case of Fat Tire, though! The last time I had that beer was when I was living in Laramie, Wyoming to attend WyoTech. That is the best beer I've ever tasted. BTW, I'm going to take the 3" body lift off and trade the 40" Ground Hawgs for 38" Swampers.
Bigger Valves 12-13-2001, 05:25 PM buy it.. the more the merrier..
Mcstiff 12-13-2001, 06:13 PM BOB the frame and bed for a sweet departure angle. Do you care about how long the bed is?
Ten_Bucks 12-14-2001, 10:08 AM I don't care for the bobbed bed look. I would never do that to anything I ever owned.
Highlander 12-14-2001, 07:08 PM Thought I had a case of Deja Vu.
I have almost the same truck (1970 ) in the same condition, But I think I'm going to section the frame ( since it's a long bed ) down to around 100" , either bob it or flat bed or another body swap.
Big motor , coils , auto , 9" = big fun next spring!:D
I wonder how much beer this is going to take?
