I read the DIY conversion on Woodys page and was wondering if anybody has tried it yet. What do you guys thing would be the best donor vehicle and what do you ask for to get the whole meal deal (chevy 350). Maybe it sounds to good to be true but it sounds like you can just adapt the throttle body modify the distributor throw on your sensors and put power on the computer and your good to go. What sensors are necessary and how are these adapted to the 350?

Thanks,

get a 350 tbi out of a 90 or 91 1/2 ton chevy 4x4 with the auto th700. no smog pump from the factory!!!!!!!
other years might work also, but i'm sure of those two.

ps: i've always used the howell harness but i hear the painless setup has gotten much better and works really well too.

so a tbi with harness and computer out of 90-91 half ton would do the trick? Problem with most of the yards around here is they want the application and specific parts

Hey Arndog,
Those years should work. Need to figure out what fuel pump to use. Get the eng and harness (with sensors). Could just do the TBI on a V-8, but use the distributor from the TBI engine. I have diagrams if you need them.

Went on the "June Jamb"

yoda I think I already have the correct distributor (no vacumm and advance and the 4 wire plug coming off of it) so it sounds like I can just ask for the tbi plus sensors computer and harness

how was the june jamb? Where did you guys end up going

thanks

The older blocks aren't fitted for a knock sensor. The heavier duty applications do not have air pumps either, 3/4 and 1 tons. I used the painless harness. It works Ok but it is a little short for putting the computer someplace water tight. If I had it to do over I'd get the Howell Harness. I got my pump from them and they have a better deal if you get the harness and the pump. As for other sensors, MAP sensor, O2 sensor, knock sensor, EGR, these are just off the top of my head. Really it isn't too hard to wire. An easy afternoon. I love mine.

Mine is a Howell. I love it except the fuel pump bit the dust. I have tried every other pump known, and think I will go back to the Howell, cause it ran the best with it.
You can make a mount for the knock sensor of you use an engine without one. I think mine is on a bracket coming off the motor mount, but really close to the engine.
I'll never have another off-road vehicle w/o FI.

When I got my motor ('95 454) I got everything that was attached to, including the complete wiring harness. At that point there is only four or five wires that need to be hooked to the computor and the stock harness plugs into the sensors on the motor. I looked at the aftermarket harnesses and it seemed easier to me to use the stock one.

Hey Arndog,
I thought the TBI distributor had 2 harness connectors. One is the ign circuits, and the other is for the electronic spark timing. It should not have the vac or mechanical advance.

We went to Greenwater for the Jamb. Corey got sick and was unable to go.
