Damn, it seems like every other post is about 60's anymore, so I guess might as well just keep with it.
First, I posted on here a little while ago about the gears for a 61 front problem. I've been looking around. If you're looking for heavy duty stuff from a guy who knows his shiznit check out www.coneindustries.com or give him a call. Sandy didn't say he made Dana 61 spacers but I found who does, Reider Racing. 40 bucks with bolts plus a numerically high ratio carrier and you can be sportin' 60 gears of any deep ratio in your 61. :smokin:
Now, I been wondering about this 35 spline stub deal. All this stuff is in a pile on the floor in the shop so I really don't know how bad a thing are the stock 30 spline stubs. Do they break before the ujoints? Worth the money or is it just a cool thing to tell your wheeling buddies about, "yep, got 35 spline stub shafts there too." And then I see that performanceindustries.com special price. 450 for a pair? Spicer 12" stubs for my Dog-e axle are $65 apiece. Warn 35 spline hubs are 130. Am I missing something here?
Anyway I'd rather have a ujoint go than a stub, providing the subsequent explosion doesn't take the ears off with it.
35?30? I goose it sometimes...

I kept my 30 spline stubs cuz I hope they go before the u-joint. If the joint goes it is all too often it takes out all three IMO.

i agree. especially since both my inner shafts have been narrowed. not only would i have to buy new/spare shafts but then i'd hqave to have them narrowed too. i just got spare stubs and i am working on a set of spare inners but i hope if a breakage occures it is eiter a hub or a stub. it'll cost elss $$$ that way. just my op.:D

That's something I've been preocupied with lately, too. I rebuilt my axle using the 30 spline stubs because if I paid for the 35 spline subs and I broke a u-joint and it took out an ear on both the inner and outer shaft, I didn't want to have to buy the new inner shaft AND the new $450 set of 35 spline outers. For now I'm only going to be running 38" tires. But once I can afford them, I'm going 44". I'm not rough on the gas pedal at all. Most of the people I see who are breaking 35 spline stuff are so stupid on the thin pedal that I want to shoot them. I guess only time will tell since I haven't got the 350 in yet. Everyone I know will say, "Go 35 spline," but they are all fawqing morons on the gas and no matter what they're driving it's going to break. (Sherman tanks included.) So I just dont' know what to think. I believe that the stock Dana 70 stub shafts are somewhat cheaper than all of those alloy shafts, too though.

Keep the 30 spliners and worry about upgrading when you do get silly with the extra HP. Didnt you runa 44 before? The 60 will give you so much more confidence stock outa the box that you wont know when to say when. I spent too much time babying a 44 and I havent found the weak link in the 60 yet. I have witnessed the 30 spl. shatter though but they were under 454ci.
