: Spicer 760x update....

As you may or may not know, I have been running a set of 760x 'joints courtesy of Jess @ High Angle. Well they survived the bash fest that Kelly put them through at CalROCS, and then I took them up to the Rubicon last weekend for an all-out throttle fest in the snow. Cutting trail for 20 other rigs, they held up to continuous 3-4th gear full throttle action for hours at a time. However when the weekend came to a close, one of the 'joints blew the tips off of the caps on the stub axle. No damage was done to the cross, or the warn axle. Since I *believe* that the 760 and 297 have the exact same cap, Im not suprised. The bottom line is, I feel that these joints are definitely stronger than the 297x. How much stronger remains to be seen. But it is a step in the right direction!

Lance is right! I to ran them for my limited run at CalRocs through my 2 courses and also ran them this past weekend on the Con snow trip. I put them through whatever the snow and trail could dish out and they are still holding true. I'm still going to save for some CTM's :^):D

Another outing with the CTM's, and they laughed at everything.
In time I may even lose my ability to change a D44 axle assembly in my sleep.

This is great news indeed. Looks like it is time to pick some up for the Scout. Thanks for the info Lance

has anybody heard anything about the new axles that I believe randy's is making for D44's? There suppost to be super strong and would make a beef combo with CTM's?

Is there any way to visually identify the difference between a 297-x and a 760x after installation?

I had my axles re-geared earlier this year and my gear guy replaced the front axle U-joints at the same time...

Thanks,

Jake Harsha

Thanx guys, I just happened to be tearing apart my 44 for a springover in front on my j10, and if you are correct it was worth the 4 day delay(f@##$n UPS!!!) in order to get a set from Jess, time will tell! (still gonna be no match for the 14 bolt rear though:D !!!!)

If you do a search on 5-760 there is a ton of information about them on this board..

Visually you can tell if you reference this picture..

I would be willing to bet the joints you ahd replaced are the 297's not the 760s just because most shops dont have them yet..

I was just calling around for gear prices for the 14 bolt, and DTD (I think it was them) said that it is no longer an optional 44 joint, but the only joint available.

My point is, they have them.

So are you saying that the cap worked it's way out of the yoke? Would spot welding the caps in place have prevented this?

Im saying the tip of the cap exploded off the body of the cap. Happens all the time. I'll get some pics when I get a chance.
