: 6" SPOA spring pad or larger

Here the issue:

Currently my Zuk is set up with a 4 1/2" SPOA spring pad not welded similar to the RR version, 6.1 Tcase, 31" Swappers, stock R/P, Stock Axels, yad yad yad, finally I can play on some big rocks but I'm starting to hit the frame rails and need to increase my lift any one using larger than 6" SPOA spring pads, if I switch to them I'll get an easy 1 1/2" more clearance under the frame, but need some advise on what others are running?

THX
:) :) Paul

Big rocks+31" tires=

You need to step up to a bigger tire. Putting a bigger spring perch on there would be bootie fab. Look into a spring swap like YJ's to achieve a 33" tire size. Not to mention that a taller spring perch, will put more leverage on the spring it self and multiplying spring wrap.

Increasing the height using spring pads is a bad idea. Get taller springs (Cj, Yj, Rears up front, etc.) You are essentially talking about a “lift block” the only difference is that it will be welded to you housing instead of mashed between the spring and pad.
This method increases leverage from you axles to your springs causing more axle wrap and more stress on all the attached components. Look through my pics (Search windrock and Slade and you will see I run a 31 and have plenty of center clearance, and general clearance all the way around. I could easily fit 33’s, but run 31’s to preserve the drive line. Here lately that doesn’t seem to be working either.
Also, if you are getting to where you run hard stuff, you need to truss your housing. I’ve bent two in the last few runs. Just weld an angle to the top if your poor like me. It will be ugly but works well.

THX Bill and Silverzuk:

That make sense, what to do?

What size spring perchs are you guys running?

you just get nastier axle wrap when you increase the distance between your axle housing and your spring pack...dont screw with lift blocks or the sort unless you have a traction bar....

Just normal Spoa pads that are reinforced with a welded piece of metal the stock pad.

Oh yeah, and when you go to the 33" tires you'll start busting axle components too! Might as well upgrade the axles too. Oh, do you have powersteering for those bigger tires? Hmmm, maybe I can run 31"s a little longer. :flipoff2:

You might want to get a full belly pan to protect the frame rails
(and T-case).It doesn't seem to matter how much lift and what
size tires you run, you're always going to attempt a more
difficult obsticle thats going to get you high centered.

THX GUYS:

I guess a good belly pan is the logical choose at this time, larger tires=Toy Axels yad yad yad...

I'm thinking 4 link with Coils all around, rather than YJ springs at this point, good lift, great approach angle, no more axel wrap and smooth ride qualitys.

33s are for little girl's baby buggies. ;)

I run the shortest possible spring pad I could make. I also run the least amount of spring lift possible, but for some reason ended up with long ass shackles. :( I do run the tallest tire I could fit. But I haven't dragged the belly yet. But I'm sure I will at some point.
