I did the 350 swap in the '70 cruiser, and now I'm hooking everything up. I was looking at the old "vacuum switching valve" and just wondering what good it was. Should I be using it for anything? Or should I just toss it in my growing pile of old cruiser stuff that I ripped out...
Did a search- found nothing. So I am asking. And yeah, I am a newbie, so I expect the flip-offs and such...

Welcome. :D (sorry, no flipoffs from me) :(

I am not sure what "vacuum switching valve" you are talking about? are you talking about the vacuum transfer case shift or what?

If you've made the swap to the 350 then you won't need it anymore. The Vacuum switching valve for the F and 2F controls the vacuum to the carb, distributor, EGR, and other smog controls. It is dependent upon a signal from the speed sensor on the speedometer and the circuit board computer under the dash, opening and closing the vacuum circuits at various speeds. These controls won't apply to your 350.
BTW if anyone has a post 74 California VSV, hang on to it. When mine failed a few years back, I discovered that it is no longer available from Toyota. Like all other smog parts, it cost a bundle to replace!
Thanks Shipwreck- I assumed as much.
I am hooking everything vacuum related to the intake manifold. That means one less part under the hood that can break.
Always a nice feeling.
The VSV is in now the pile of old cruiser schtuff. Jeez, now if the pile was actually worth something- that'd be nice...
