Folks,

I have gotten myself into a dilemma. The kind of dilemma that you want to be in... Here is the deal..

I've got a 97 TJ Wrangler with Atlas t/case and 4.10 f&r D30/D44 with ARB's.

Sometime ago I decided I wanted to get into some serious axle mods and so I bought a 81 Jeep J20 Rear D60 Full Floater as the starting point for my axle fun!

I also have a front 91 F350 D60 on order which should arrive very shortly.

Now I have pulled the tubes out of the rear 60 and was gunna shorten the tubes down and push them back in, when I started to think that maybe I would be better off with the High Pinion housing from the Front D60 in the rear and put the Low pinion housing (from the J20 Dana) in the front where arguably it is less required, especially on the Wrangler...

I know that I should just get another HP housing and have HP all round, but let's assume that I cant.

So folks I would love to hear you opinions on this one. Is the HP housing better off in the front or the rear....

Thanks in advance

Rod

Arguably is right. ;)

There are good reasons for both, but unless you're going with a real long drivetrain (early 700R4 or Klune V or something like that) I'd say put the RC housing in the front.

You're going to need a CV shaft in back either way and that should mitigate any vibes caused by the steep angle of the shaft. Better to have the RC gears in front where they belong.

Jake

how much lift are you putting in it? id say since you now have hubs in the front put the high pinion in the rear. even with a cv rear and and atlas your rear d line will suck with more than 4 inches of lift which im guessing if you are needing d60s you have at least 6 inches of lift. put it in the rear

I vote RC in the rear. It's just not necessary in the front.

How much 3.125" O.D tubing do you have to make this work? It is up to you since you know the amount of work it will be either way so if you need to then suck it up and do it. If you want to but don't need to and don't want to do the work then I say get the rear cut down, bolted in and then you are ready when the front get there.

If you could i would put the RC in the rear. My CV actually binds up sometimes if i hit the brakes hard or really hit the gas. And my transfercase is already lowered.

Man, I sure wish that my hardest decision was "where to put the reverse cut 60 center section, front or rear"

I just said Fawk it I put RC 60's front and rear!!!!!!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
less debating no more issue!!!

But if i had you're situation I would put it in the rear!!!! for sure RC 60 up front is not needed up front.

plus with the TJ brackets you will run into posible trouble with clearance from the pinion maybe!

No Question..

The Rev cut goes in the rear. Point it up at 18degrees

You can gain sooo much.. Just look at my RR 44 in the rear of my TJ

Its on my home page..

My future mods include only 1 RR 60 for the rear.
and 1 standard 60 for the front.

The amount of weakness you are getting by putting the rev in the rear is the same as the weakness your getting with the standard cut in the front.

i agree w/ every one high pinion rear over front any day
