: Finally got my new tires, now will they fit?
Patrickvr6 10-24-2003, 12:16 PM Well my new Trxus MT's are finally here and now I need to know if they will fit with my stock air springs. My truck is a 95' Classic LWB and the tires are 235-85-16. I have read in several places that these will fit with stock suspension but it isn't clear if they only work with coil springs or if they will be ok with air springs as well. I had planned to have a 2" Rovertym lift by now but funds are a little tight and I would like to go ahead and have the tires mounted. Anyone know for sure if they will be ok? I know this isn't exactly a hard core rock crawling question but this board seems to be pretty decent to newbie's and I have to start somewhere. Thanks guys.
I cross posted this to the RRO email list today but it is slow on Fridays so I thought maybe you guys could help me out.:D
PTSchram 10-24-2003, 12:21 PM SEARCH!
(I can say that as I asked the same question and got bunches of comments, some kind, some not so:flipoff2: )
Now, go out there and rip that EAS off and put some real springs under your truck before the EAS fails.
DiscoDino 10-24-2003, 12:44 PM 235/85s??? That nightmare has already been dealt with...we're having some serious ones about 37+ man...
(Dreamy voice on)
"37s....hmmmm...shave a bit more from here...aluminum is flexible...it'll give more...do I actually need a rear door?...fenders...naaa...will my spouse kill me...hmmm..."
(Dreamy voice off)
:flipoff2:
red90rover 10-24-2003, 01:12 PM Yes, you are on the wrong board.
Go look here:
http://www.rangerovers.net/rrtires.htm#even2
AlanB 10-24-2003, 01:25 PM Don't do it till you get the springs. If you do and your EAS pukes and drops you to the bumpstops you better plan on walking. With the stock size tire you can at least drive on the bumpstops.
redrangie 10-24-2003, 01:41 PM If anyone is wondering why my post count is down, it's because I couldn't possibly respond to all the DUMB ASS questions that are being asked here instead of LRX and Discoweb..... so I don't even try.
fawk.
DieLucas! 10-24-2003, 01:57 PM Good grief...not again.
No it will not work. It will rub the fenders, cause undue wear on the wheel bearings, likely shear your axles at the splines and void the warranty. LRNA does not look too kindly on those who perform needless modifications, especially for the sake of aesthetics.
One time, my friend put 235/85s on his RRC and while he was driving down the highway, his front wheel fell off. He immediatly swerved across the center-line and hit a short-bus filled with handicapped students head-on. This wasn't the worst of it because his runaway tire careened through a little girl's lemonade stand, killing her and scattering $12 in quarters and dimes everywhere. True story.
Another time, the same friend (though disfigured because a wheelchair from the previous said accident came flying through his windshield and hitting him in the head - and I think this may have also permanently caused brain injury) put 235/85s tires on his RRC again But this time he ordered some heavy-duty axle shafts from GBR. The wheels stayed put, thankfully, but through a long day of freeway driving, the air in the tires heated up to the point that his RRC floated off the expressway. As you know, RRC's are not that aerodynamic, nor were they intended for manned-flight. Well, among the brilliant things this guy ever did, he discovered he could steer the vehicle in air by opening and closing his doors. Unfortunately, he was not wearing his seat belt, and while banking his vehicle amidst a left turn, he fell out and dropped into the trailer of a truck hauling manure. This was rather unfortunate for the family as the mortician was unable to extract all the feces from this guy's lungs and he nonetheless reaked of cow-shit at his funeral
I even recall in the late 90's, LRNA released a service bulletin cautioning the practice of larger than stock tires. It's certainly not a good thing to modify these vehicles as none of us are engineers, and LR spent a lot of money on trained professionals who designed the Discovery to perform the best just as it was configured from the factory.
Don't do it. You'll be sorry.
Oh yeah...do a search, newbie!!!
BTW, Redrangie...it's due to moronic questions like this that my post-count is catching up to you. Now, where's AaronT to start a mindless arguement with me?
PTSchram 10-24-2003, 02:14 PM DieLucas:
Don't you have some studying to do, or something important and executive-like for Buttcheeze International? Maybe some electrical gremlin to chase down? I smell smoke, better check your truck.
:flipoff2:
BTW-Aaron called me the other day. He seems far more intelligent over the phone, must be the internet skewing things (either that or there aren't any certified used A**holes to interfere). Pendy, on the other hand is just like he is here as on the phone:flipoff2: . Funny, but when he told me of his educational background, he reminded me of Leafsprung!
My post count on the other hand is going up as I'm bored to tears by the day job... And they won't let me on Discoweb.
Patrickvr6 10-24-2003, 02:50 PM I did a search and I did find some info but all it said is that with stock suspension it would rub at full tuck. The info that I found didn't mention if stock meant coils or air springs. Now I know that they are talking coils.
I would like to ditch the EAS and I plan to in a few weeks but I just thought I could go ahead mount the tires up sine I have them. Now I know to just wait. If you guys would like me to do it sooner feel free to paypal me the funds.
I don't really plan to do any real wheeling with this truck, I just want to be able to drive over curbs at the mall for good parking places. The holiday season is fast approaching and I want to be sure and have this thing ready for the shopping frenzy. Besides I'm just driving this truck until the pink paint job is finished on my H2. :flipoff2:
I am truly disappointed to hear that Land Rover does not approve of me modifying this vehicle with larger tires. Do all you guys running 37's have them installed as factory options or are you driving the rare Camel Trophy trucks?
Anyway thanks for the info but I was really hoping for some more creative flames. ;) I'm a bit disappointed with you guys.

I believe we may have been mistaken with this gentleman, he may just be Pirate material.
Peace,

aloharover 10-24-2003, 03:28 PM Why would you order tires before determining if they would fit?

It is getting a 2" Rovertym lift soon (hopefully within a few weeks) but I have the tires now. My rear tires are pretty shot so I thought I might mount these up before I kill someone with my 4-wheel drifts in the rain. Now it looks like I'm gonna have to wait until I get the springs on. After that I will own the malls!!:D
10spline 10-24-2003, 04:04 PM What i would do is put the tires on then do what i call "the columbo."
Scratch my head and say "honey, i thought these tires would have fit but it looks like they don't"
Say nothing.. walk around the car- "You know i heard there's this guy in richmond, VA that built printing presses in his former life that now fabricates custom Land Rover Suspensions."
(all this has to be said as if its a surprise, or you would have never thought of it before.)
"maybe we should call this rovertym guy and see what we can do to make these tires work"

Coming from a guy with a Volkswagen reference in his username, do you think we give a chit?
BTW, you weren't even worth the originality. I dug that story up from a post I made last week.
aaron t 10-24-2003, 11:35 PM ....and where is aaron t for that mindless arguement.....
:D i'm right here pal, ready to go, my mind is turned off and everything.
i am waiting to think of intelligent questions to ask on this board, like how can i find a fc101 front end in this ford explorer country?
yes the internet just makes me dumb.
btw, 235 85s will rub bad, you will need to develope a good relationship with the sawzall.
aaron t 10-24-2003, 11:42 PM paul made a good point the other day, a lot of guys see "land rover forum" and think that means this is as good a place as any to ask bolt on widget questions and dumb tire/lift/what will make my d90 look cool stuff. at which point the newbs never read other threads just to gauge the attitude of the board.
i lurked on the toy forum seeking out raw info to do an sas for almost a year before i even put up one post. in fact i had already completed it before i ever posted. i just got dumb and tried to help that other kid with the tire question.
in other words look on dweb for the tire issues, they have some good info.
dweb (http://www.discoweb.org)

Looks like you had a similar question about your Disco.
Am I :rainbow: because I don't have two sunroofs?

Again
Tony
You like Fiat's and I like Dub's. Who is more wrong?
Bluewater 10-25-2003, 06:53 AM bust out the saw and take it to the fenders if they won't fit make them fit. even if it takes new sprngs. like pete said i don't see why you didn't measure the wheel wells to make sure the tires would fit in the first place.

Huh...you had to spell it out. Most people get it without having to do that...
I don't buy performance...I build performance.
BTW, you'll never see your precious VW doing a nice wheelstand like that (much less in the 10's).

Dude, I am so with you. This stuff gets old real fast!
I'm starting to see DieLucas' standard response to this stuff. I like it! But... I think every time he post it he should add a little more onto it. Eventually it would be a book!!!
To Patrickvr6:
First off, Truxus M/T tires SUCK ASS!!!! I had them for a while and promptly sold them after 3 flats in one month of wheeling. Granted I wasn't visiting the mall with them everyday, so they might last longer on your truck. :flipoff2:
DieLucas! 10-26-2003, 03:11 PM I only speak from experience LWG...and as an advocate of the mothers of slain lemonade-stand proprietors (MoSLSP...you say it "moslisp) nationwide, I can tell you this is not an isolated problem.
