Anyone know what the hell is in the back of a 2000 Expedition w/ 4 wheel drive and the bigger motor of the V8's? A buddy of mine has one and wants to put either an ARB or an Ox locker in the rear axle, but i have no idea what it is. Maybe a D70? I have no clue. Maybe a 10.25? Any answers will be appreciated.
 :(

Could be a 8.8 or a 9.75 gonna have to look at the tag to be sure though
same as what they put in the f150s. its prolly the 9.75. def not the 10.25

I am used to seeing all the 60's and 44's and the 9" housings...Jeeping as much as i do, but i've never seen an axle like the one in the expedition. It is bigger than the dana 60 for sure though.

It should be a semi float sterling 9.75"....looks very similar to the 10.25" diff, just a little smaller.

The diff tag should be easy enough to read. All the Ford rears state the ratio and the nominal ring gear size on the tag.
The top line is the build code -- info on what plant it was made in, and what revision it is.
The bottom line is the ratio, the size, and the build date in order. For example, my '95 10.25 LS with 4.10 says:
4L10 10 25 5F13
Where the first part is the ratio, L stands for posi, and 5F13 is Ford speak for like May 13, 1995 (OTOH, might be wrong on the date).
My GF's 4.10 open 8.8 says something like:
4 10 8 8 9B12

It should be a 34 spline Sterling 9.75 so a 34 spline Dana 60 in a way. You realy need to do some searching to find a locker for it.

It's a 9.75" set up for 4 link and coils springs.
