: How bad is it to not have the trackbar inline with the drag link?

Pics? Depends on how extreme the angles are.

I just removed the track bar completely. Just had to get used to how it acts.

What vehicle is this on?
I'm guessing it's a TJ???
If so, you can't remove the track bar like the previous guy did.
If the drag link and track bar aren't at the same angle, you'll get bump steer.

That's the swaybar, goober. Trackbar is a vital part of holding the axle in place under the chassis.

Yup.

yeah, it's on a TJ, nothing is in place yet, starting to line up where the brackets are gonna be welded on a HP D60 and just wondering how much effort I should put into getting them lined up.

Currently have the trackbar that came with my RE long arm kit. Steering hasn't been figured out yet.

one more thing, currently have 4.5" coils, was originally just gonna go for 5.5" just to clear the 37"s, thinking now I'm gonna go up to 8", having a custom track bar made, does it matter if it's straight?

could I have one made that just followed the angle of the drag link (would be high steer) then a bend to go straight/almost straight down to the axle bracket?

or would it have to have two bends to enter the axle bracket at the same angle it leaves the frame bracket?

Keep them as parallel as possible to reduce bump steer. I'm not into the bent up track bar due to the fact that it's locating the axle side to side and you'd be introducing weak points into it. Not a good idea in my book. Straight + stronger than bent.

I agree on the straight link vs. bent, but you could easily add some webing inside the bends for a sort of triangulation to keep it from folding up on you.

I'm thinking about using an RE rear TJ long arm for a trackbar on a Ford 1/2 ton fullwidth HP44. I just measured my mount to mount length on my XJ. Currently at 5" up front, my mount to mount measurement is ~32". Using that link with the XD frame mount, it could possibly work, but its just an idea; I could probably could build myself a link much cheaper than a single RE unit.

I removed my sway bar and my track bar. the track bar is to short. Is it that important to have?

Trout remember, all the bending in the world doesnt change the mounting points....and the lines you want to match up are the mounintg point on frame, to mounting point on axle imaginary line.

As well as the steering box, to wherever you mount the drag link imaginary line.

toyota pickups don't even have track bars :flipoff2: your thinking of the torque rod.

UP_Roktoy is right on about matching angles, it doesnt matter what the bars look like just the angle between the mounting points. Also 5.5" springs are more then enough for 37's

The best combo is equal length and parallel drag link and panhard(track) bar.

but what about switching to a high steer setup and possibly moving the tie rod behind the axle? Figure I'll also leave room for 38.5"s, no point in buying springs twice

do you think 6" springs would be better for this setup?

I think I'll just use my current RE track bar for now and if I need a longer one in the future make it the same shape as it.

thanks everyone for all the help and input.
