custom control arms. I found a design that I like but I want a longer arm and do not want to pay the price that they're asking. If I were to have a one off set amde through a machine shop, custom fab shop, or one of ya'all what should I expect to pay?

the arm on the top is what I am looking to have built. (with the axle mounts on the bottom of the rod instead of the top.)

You might be able to adapt a rover part. They might be a little cheaper. Try www.rovertym.com. They have some real nice offset arms that could be made to work. I'll bet they'd be interested in fabbing up something for you if you are interested.

I plan on fabbing these to the top of a rockwell......so clearance isn't the issue. I am really looking for a two link system that is adjustable and has a pivot.

Rockwells on an 80:eek: Lets see some pics!

The arms are from a 80 he could be putting them on anything. A 2.5 ton 80 would be sick though.

Looks simple enough....

The most expensive parts would likely be the joints - 6 of those puppies are nto cheap.

Otherwise it is just some tube with a slight bend, notched for the jonts to recess into them, and a large threaded section under the boot....

Why can't you make them yourself? The only part you may not be able to do is the tube bending.... assuming youc an weld and have a grinder and/or a torch.

I am still debating what to throw them under. I am thinking right now of using a J-20 frame, m-715 body and bed, coiled front, chevy lift springs rear w/ shackle flip.

Either that or start with a yj frame, cj-7 tub, and so forth.....

I have no problem welding stuff like shackle hangers or spring perches but when it comes to a somewhat complicated control arm (complicated in that it isn't just a standard arm, that middle heim makes it harder imo) I want it to be close to professional.

so if any of ya'all feel like makin me a set...name your price!
otherwise I'll start checking the local fab shops.

a few other q's really quick.....

how much should I expect to pay for a set of custom leaf springs (general ballpark)?

ok...If I have a sm465 and the rockwells with 6.7 gears what should I expect my top speed to be....assuming 44 inch tires.

would I be better off long run spending a lot of extra $ to get a nv4500 instead?

91 mph @ 5,000 rpm

bwahahahahahahahahahahaha

let me rephrase.......what is my top speed using roughly 3000 rpm as a limit.

I don't feel like blowin my engine here.....just looking to be able to hit 75 without worry.

You won't make 75 at under 3k with that. Probably more like 55; I ran the numbers on my '84 a while back, assuming 44's, 4.10's, a 2.28 case (in low range, 'cause my gerbil power isn't gonna move 44's in high range), with a five speed (0.83ish overdrive) and it hit redline around 95. With OD, but with an effective nine-something axle... my guess is (without running the numbers) you'd be lucky to make 65 without wrapping past 3500. But if you've got a V8 (my '84 has a dying 22R) you might actually go faster than 35... I probably won't. :(

As for the arms, we can make something like that; you'd probably be looking around $200-250 apiece (assuming you buy in quantity, like four) if the joints are just urethane bushings; if they're something weird (johnny joints or the like) they'd be quite a bit more. One single arm, would be more expensive.

ok, a little more specific here:

the t mounts at teh axle I would want urethane, it needs to have the adjustable end to act as a hinge (to stop the binding commonly asc. w/ this type of arm) and I am debating on whether or not to heim the frame end. with the adjustable section I would think that urethane would work ok......but like I said, it can go either way.

I would originally just go with a pair because I was going to go leafs in the rear, I want to keep some towing/hauling capability (rock, bark, etc) but four or more couldbe a possibility. do you have a number where I could contact you?
