Thinkin about pickin up a 5 lug rear 60 from an IH pickup.
Anyone know how wide they are compared to stock SII axles and chevy front 44/60's?
Also, anyone know if the brakes are small enough for 15" wheels.

Appreciate it.

I believe they are 64" or 65" WMS....

Yes they do fit a 15" wheel...I have one under the T'all...

You know that is a semi-floater rear....

If you really need the strength of the D60 rear you might want to look for another axle.

I run 3/4 IH truck axles in my SII and have the full floating D60 rear with no complaints. Maybe you should keep looking past what you have found.

For a trail rig? If so a semi floater will work fine. I run a semi-float, beat the fawk out of my rig and have never had a problem. I can see a full float for load capacity, but for a wheeler it think it is just not nescesary.

What year IH? I'd make sure that it's brake hardware that is readily available before swapping it under.

I dunno if the IH 60 stuff is any more available than their corporate axle stuff which is unobtanium these days.

You just have to know where to look. I have several unobtainable axles. Anyone need a power lock for a 4.10 IH rear?

That 60 still has 30 spline axles so the only real benifit is the larger gears and bigger wheel bearing, right? Go for a FF axle so you can atleast drive home if you break a shaft.

No, the only advantage is the bigger R&P, wheel bearings are still Set-10.

With a truss, good canidite for a set of aftermarket 35-spline shafts... Still have the smaller bearings, but a trail rig can live with it.

Sure is nice to have FF when a shaft lets go. I had mydrivers side rear tire go wizzing past me as I bounced all over the road when a SF let go....

so the SF 60 uses c clips?

My SF axle expereince was a scout D44 (no c clips) but I fatigued the axle right at the mounting flange between the bearing and the WMS.

I *believe* the SF d60 is similar in design (no c clips) but I have never owned one, because I have a FF d60

d60 no c clip

Stick with what you have if your going stay SF. You dont wana cary a pig behind you if your axles are just as week. If you go 60 do it right and go FF.

EDIT: Or cheeper and stronger 14Bolt FF and shave it. Everything is cheep for a 14bolt. even a disk brake swap is easy and just over a few Hundred.

They are 6 or 7" wider than a scout 44. If you ran a chevy front I would think it would be pretty close, but of course that would be 6 or 8 lug. If you want to go full width, I like the shaved 14, with a 60 front, or chevy 44 converted to 8 lug. You could run the IH 60 rear then put your scout 44 outers on a chevy 44. This would get you about the same width and keep your 5 lug pattern if you were looking to do it cheap.

If you want 5 lug outers, use Ford or Dodge 5 lug internal locking hub stuff. Ditch the cheesy SII D30-sized stub shaft crap for the stockers or mall posers.

What?? and downgrade from a manly 27-spline stub shaft to a wimpy 19??
