Shoope1 10-29-2003, 10:07 AM The links aren't working.
What in the Frig happened??
blackx 10-29-2003, 02:07 PM The links are fixed.
I was going up a hill and a rock and the truck died and started rolling backward. By the time I actually got the truck stopped the front passenger side tire came off of the rock and got everything all sideways on the hill over me my wife and dogs went. My wife is just a bit sore in her lower back.
I have heard that there is something out there that you can put in the axle or something so that when the truck stops or is in a forward motion that it will not go backwards. Am I correct? Is there such a thing??
ksbronco 10-29-2003, 03:00 PM Maybe a line lock on the brakes? That would work, but I am not sure if that is what you mean. Manual tranny? engine dies, truck stops?

EBSTEVE 10-29-2003, 03:49 PM I am glad you are ok, get a cage for gods sake!
Looks alot like what Bronkzilla did <-not sure that's how he spells it.
blackx 10-29-2003, 03:55 PM Trust me that is what is in the works and thought right now. Cutting the top off. Full Roll-cage. New seats and 5-points. Spool in the rear and solid axle and locker up front. New carb and something that locks up to only allow the vehicle to go forward or stays in one place when it dies (should not happen with a new carb). I am also thinking about maybe bobbing the ass end if I can and maybe moving the rear axle foward a couple inches. But that is alot of damn work. Don't know for sure how far to go. Just trying to find something that will not let my truck roll back when it dies.
wcdeod 10-29-2003, 04:34 PM Man that sucks. That thing was looking good. Not aware of any "thing" that goes in the axle to prevent movement when stopped. Tough break. Let me know if you need help rebuilding it. I just got to Leavenworth and am still trying to put my 70 EB back together.
bobbywalter 10-29-2003, 05:19 PM ever consider efi?
and maybe a hand operated t case brake.
glad you guys are ok. the dogs ok too?, or banged up a bit like the wife?
EBSTEVE 10-29-2003, 06:16 PM I was not trying to be an ass, just hate the no cage roll thing, too many people getting hurt, anyway check this out. It's a guy here in WA that I don't know but he was in about the same boat your in now.

saf-t scissors 10-29-2003, 06:58 PM Or just ditch the power brakes for a full-on manual setup. If you get the m/c sized right and a decent linkage to run it, it shouldn't take a terrible amount of leg strength to stop it... and the feel won't change when the truck dies.

I agree with this philosophy. That's the way my EB is set up.
However, a Vacume power brake set up (that is in good condition) is good for at least one pump of the brakes before loosing the assist. Maybe it died and rooled back before he could even get his foot over onto the brake pedal. Gravity sucks sometimes.

And now it looks like this.
FLEXYSAMMY 10-30-2003, 05:45 AM Two words ROLL CAGE!!!!!!!!!
MudzerK5 10-30-2003, 06:25 AM Straight ROCKCRAWLER!!!
Isn't that nearly impossible now?:D
If you hack it up, you should keep with the fullsize look and re-skin the truck but make a few mods. You can make it convertable, narrow the front and rear. Bob the rear, move the axles outward for better approach and departure angles.
I think the concept like JR did is the coolest. Ryan (I think thats his name) did a killer buildup on a 1st Gen Blazer too. Same concept.

Acctualy there is a thing called a "Hill holder" but I am not sure it would work well enough for this. Subarus have a device that when you push in the clutch it engages a brake cylinder but only on an upward angle, it doesnt do it moving forward or while driving. They tend to get out of adjustment fairly often. . They do work very well for the application "city driving starting up hill "when they work.

Look at the good side... umm... umm... it'll keep ya busy for a while? That sucks :(
This is why I'm caging mine before her maiden voyage.

I think this is would be a good idea if everytime you went up a hill you were anticipating the damn thing to die. Not me. And yes I did get my foot over to the brake pedal fast enough it just takes an act of god to get the damn thing to stop when the truck is not running. Did not have this prob till this weekend. Was planning on doing a roll cage in a couple weeks but i just wanted to get out and go with a couple friends before they leave the area because they are getting out of the army.
Occasionaly but very seldom do we go to Tiffany Springs but only to test shit out before a trip. We go to tuttle Creek ORV over in Randolph by Manhattan and FT. Riley.
I am seriously thinking about doing a tube body and working off of that.
inphobic 10-30-2003, 12:04 PM Cool! We'll have to hook up sometime when you guys head out. There is also a new place (Fulton, mo) just east of columbia which I'm guessin is prolly 3hrs for you guys? Good luck with your rebuild.
Jake
BobWilliams 10-30-2003, 12:26 PM I run the hydraboost system in my rig and when the engine dies you still have full brake pressure and can let off and back on again and its still all there. I have not heard of a roll stop for something like this. I have had my truck die coming down the moab rim trail and still had full brakes.
