As many of you recall when I redid my front bumper everyone gave me sh%t abo0ut where my plate was mounted. Well then Eric while working on the 40 did the same thing I always do and got hooked on it everytime he passed it. What to do? Something removable while wheeling but it has to be easy.

Just used some aluminum plate I had around and a set of the MagLite flashlight clamps, a few bolts and voila.

Sorry it's a bit dark but you get the idea. Easily removed with a flick of the wrist and then attaches to the rollcage until back on the road.:D

Hey that's the trick that has been listed in the "Cheap Tricks" of almost all the mags for the last 10 years.....(Just giving credit where credit is due:flipoff2: :D :D )

It looks too easy to remove to me! I have been tossong around some of my own ideas, that as soon as I get a fix-it ticket for no front plates, I will do it! But my idea is basically on the same lines as this, but with just more attaching it to the truck.

Looks good!

That's 'five-bar' alum plate...You can find it at Alreco Aluminum Surplus Supply, in Henderson, Co - 303-287-7210. Good prices too from what I hear.

I usually see it at the metla supply places. I am going to run a small safety cable just in case she decides to jump. The nice part is that it cost roughly $6 and about 1/2 and hour and no more catching on the plate. This is where it was mounted before and I could not walk past the corner without snagging on it. This also serves as a double duty to protect the roller fairlead if that's important to you.

It'll keep the bugs off the spooled cable! Very important.

I got them at my local Ace Hardware, but I've also seen them at REI or any Police supply should have them too. Hmm or maybe a truck stop...:D

Last I heard the ticket for no front plates was pretty steep.

Well, I didn't see it in the mag and I don't go to 4x4wire so I don't know what to tell you. I was getting a set of MagLite clamps for the FJ60 and the gears turned, I find it amusing that some of you felt it necessary and took the time to point out that others had had the idea before me. As they say, there is nothing new under the sun. BTW if you don't support the plate it'll look like that guys and I'm sure the state doesn't condone drilling the plates. They're funny that way.:D

That is very dangerous in Syphilis Heights. Those boys and girls over there want to generate revenue anyway they can.

Sloan, nice setup ! :D

Hey Randii thanks for the critique. Obviously from the article my idea was better because the plate has support and won't get bent to hell and back as the one in your article. I was gonna post some of your better pictures here to illustrate my point but I didn't want to get your panties further in a bunch by using pics without permission from 4x4 Wire. Especially since I had obviously used your idea without permission. If you want a professional opinion the key light is too hot in most of those pics causing the flaring around the roller fairleads. I would suggest the next time either using nets to bring the stop down or perhaps a diffusion such as an Opal or 250 on your key light. If you want to see some other pics that I've worked on I invite you to go see Ocean's 11 or Behind Enemy Lines. I make pictures for a living, so if they look bad it's because I didn't care. BTW a mutilated plate will get you a fix it ticket. That's why I used the backing plate.:D

Sorry, didn't mean to put anyone's undies into a bunch. :D

This is a simple idea -- and a good one, but one that is easy enough to conceive and implement. There's no patent of which I'm aware... and Sloan was just publishing a good idea. That was my intent, as well, and I didn't mean to tear down anyone (hell, as much as content as we churn, I haven't the time to take pictures past 80% good, really -- and my days of being an 'art' photographer are long since gone)

That's one of the coolest things about 'wheeling, IMHO, seeing a bunch of different folks come up with a bunch of solutions (some similar, some not at all) to the same basic problem. Cool!

There, can we all have a group hug? :flipoff2:

I'm still raking the lawn, raking the lawn, raking the lawn with no front plate. :D Can't find the plate anymore!
