What's the wheelbase of your short bed? I am looking to shorten mine to a Ford shortbed. Also, would I have to worry about the arch in my chassis being gone now? I would just worry about the front and rear shackle mounts being at different heights. Would this be a problem?

Well, since you are on the Ford page I am guessing that you drive a Ford, but other than that, no one can help you, cause they don't know. But, to keep it simple........

Measure twice...
Cut once............
Fill in the fawk-ups with weld.:D :flipoff2:

Thanks, I was looking for the regular cab short bed length. I was thinking of about a 115" wheelbase, so I wasn't off by much.

And if anyone could answer this it would be great. I am worried that I would have a problem with the arch in the chassis over the axle, would I want to cut the chassis and move this forwards, or forget about it and just move the shackle mounts?

thanks

How much wheelbase are are you removing??? If you are taking less than 12 inches or so than it shouldn't matter, right? If I were you I would just move the mounts, and call it a day.

Well I will be going from this Extended cab short bed- 139"
To this Regular cab short bed- 117" So I am thinking I will have to chop and move the chassis.

Well, at least you're not shortening it like this F-350 I saw earlier today at a spring shop

 Holy Moses!! What in the world??!!!?? No I don't think I am shortening it like that. But My bed might be a bit like that, since it is a shortbed extra cab.

Still wondering, will I need to move the arch in the chassis? It doesn't look they did on that F 350.

I don't think that it will be required, but your the only one that is looking at your truck... The only reason to go through all that trouble is if the axle will make contact with the frame during flex... there's only one way to find out...:D

Im not sure if it would be neccesary to move the hump like that. I would assume that sence you ae shorting it you are also lifting it in turn means bigger tires. Will that really make a difference that it will hit the frame with that much lift. I know on my ranger the axle doesn't come withing 5" of the frame at full compression cause of the lift and that the tire has no where else to go. Just something to think about. Hope that all makes sence to you.

I shortened my shortbed to about 104" and when I had leafs in the rear I just moved the hangers forward and it was good to go, I had 38.5's and the tires never rubbed on the frame

Ok, thanks. It looks like I'll just go with moving the hangers. Just wanna make sure that nothing will get in the way during flex.

I also have a 10.25" rear end...but I think they are the same width as a 8.8 or 9"

What is the diffeence between the 10.25 and 8.8 or 9 inch rear ends? Is it just the thinkness?

I have a 69 3/4 ton that has been shortened to a short box. The frame was cut in front of the rear spring hanger and behind the rear cab mount. It lined up perfectly and no mounts or hangers had to be moved. I can email a picture of my frame if you want.
