I'm posting this question for somebody who is buying some tires off of me. I told him I'd see what I could turn up on the PBB...
Help me help this guy out :D

Here's the question as it was e-mailed to me:

any way my question was i want to put power steering on my 1979 cj5 . the only used ones i've been able to find are off of cherokees and not sure if they will work. i know they're variable ratio 13:1 to 17:1 instead of 17.5:1 of the manual box.i would think the brackets on motor are the same , but don't know about frame.i would appreciate any help.

Does anyone know what power steering boxes will bolt up, and from what vehicles??

I am running a 79 CJ-7 PS box on my 74 CJ-5..

ITs a direct bolt up from the manual to the power..

All he has todo is make sure that the PS box has the same type of hose ends as teh pump.. HE will want to get a steering box brace at the same time.. Possibly upgrade to a new Box bracket too..

SImple bolt on..

Any Jeep or Chevy car box will bolt right up. He need to look for the right spline input from the steering shaft to make things easyer but should be no problem ditching the manual box. If he can get the pump when he gets the box so they match as far as hoses go ie: o-ring or flair.

I wouldnt waste your time with factory gear box brackets. Get one from MORE or Sams offroad. You want a gear box with a big 76 cast into it. Cant miss it.
