I am looking to see if anyone has seen this.......I have a hardtop off a 78 FJ40 that has descent rear doors. I want to cut them off about midway to fit on my 72. I have ditched my half doors for a custom tailgate. It would kind of make a funky setup but it would get rid of the liftgate that is starting to rot away. I know that I have seen this set up done before but it's been a while and I don't remember how the guy did it. Any ideas?

your using the bottom half right? why not just pick up the swingout gates from someone?

No, I want to use the top half like a pair of ambulance doors and have the drop tailgate too.

Pete did it, and it looks pretty good. Come check it out. He cut the doors at the midway point, byt left the outer skin hanging about 2" or so below the cut so that it overlaps and seals the back.
Might be going for a snow wheel (if there is any) next weekend. I will keep you informed.
