Hey Scwafisch,

If memory serves me right, you got yerself a S/R (Wranglers?) and an FJ80 high-pinion front diff. By your calculations, will you have to use a fancy long-spline driveshaft, or will the kewel diff cancel this neccesity?

Thankx-

I'm not sure about the d-shaft, and won't know until its been wheeled. My gut feeling is that it will still need to be long travel, the high pinion is just going to give me happier u-joints and better clearance. I'll start out with a receiver tubing d-shaft until I get things sorted, and then keep it onboard as a universal spare.

I'd be glad to pass on the plans for the sr, I think it came out really clean, but since I began cycling the suspension I can tell you the axle still isnt far enough forward with yjs if your running 35s or larger. You could make the extension longer, but I think you would start comprimising approach too much, so I'm go to be switching to waggy springs and take advantage of the offset pin. They should be a direct swap and move everything forward another 1.75 inches, which will be perfect.

Well, in the Yota world using a FJ-80 diff still requires a long-travel shaft - it's just a little shorter.

The reasons they're used center around ground clearance - a lot harder to smack the shaft when it's 4 inch higher thant it was with the old diff.

The other one has to do with driveline angles. The front diff in a Yota from the factory is pretty close to level - and it's not unheard of for the U-joint at the diff to bind unless you throw in a degree shim. The FJ-80 diff takes care of that without screwing up your caster angle like the shims.

But yeah, the axle still swings back into the X-fer when the axle compresses... so you'll probably need a long-slip setup. Have you thought about a square tube shaft?

HIH, Tim.

Hey that would be Great! Even a few strategic pic's would help. Keep us up to date with the Waggy spring swap. I'm running 36's, so I'm sure I'll need 'em...

Thankx!

Oilburner- I will try and get all of the pictures posted on Incontrols site in a day or two.

As to the waggy springs, I spent several hours at p-n-p on Saturday with the tape measure and while the waggy springs are offset, the short end is only 0.5 inches shorter. So I am thinking about trying some plate with an offset pin like Allpro sells or maybe a combo if I cant get enough with a plate.

Ok...here's the real deal, went out and re-measured and checked my notes and the waggys will move it forward 1.0 inch so I'll go to p-n-p this weekend and try em out, heck there only $12.00!

You might also think about drilling new holes in the spring perches and inch or two behind the centered ones. Moves the centerline of the axle forward underneath the springs. I dunno about you all, but that's a common trick on Toyoders.
