: Dana 44 questions

I have a few old Scouts that I can have from a very generous neighbor. All the bodies are gone due to various stages of serious rot. But the differentials are good and some t-cases etc.

How can i tell which differentials are good in five different Scout II's and Scout 800's i think?

I was hoping on getting at least two Dana 44's and a tranny and transfer case in trade for a few cases of beer from my neighbor. (I have maintained his pasture land and watched his home while he was away for my whole life)

I have no clue how to ID a Dana 44 and a good t-case?

Before anyone unloads on me for being a Landcruiser guy, it is all I have known for ten years so switching now is not an option. I am not smart enough to relearn all that I know about toyota's.

Thanks

Aaron (riddlespokane@earthlink.net)

(I have maintenanced his pasture grazers and watched his home through my binoculars while he was away for my whole life).....it is all I have known for my ten years..... I am not smart enough to relearn all that I know about toyota's.

Fixed it for ya....:flipoff2:

Hey, at least you know there's a difference between SII's and 800's, and that they aren't Jeeps, unlike another thread in here....and you admit you don't know everything....but Scout's wouldn't require you to relearn Toy's, they're a whole new thing to learn...

You'll find your answers by searching at the link that jdjanda gave ya above....

Oh, and welcome to the dark side....

Stick with the axles from the Scout II's.

B.T.W., T.L.C's are damn good rigs, but I feel like I have to say :flipoff2: just as a matter of principle! ;)

Easiest way to differentiate Dana 30 axles from Dana 44 axles on the Scout II, is to see where the leaf spring mounts on the axle. If it mounts on the axle tube; it's a 30. If it mounts on a cut-away on the differential housing; it's a 44. Most 1974 and newer Scout II's have the Dana 44. By the way I also live in Boise and have a Scout II with a Dana 30. I was wondering if you would be interested in selling one of those Dana 44's if you have a spare.

Hi- I decided not to use the DANA 44 after reading some posts that the OEM toyota stuff may be better for longevity. I will talk with my buddy and see what he wants for a dana 44. I also know where there are several Scout II's just sitting in fields out by Wieser and Wendell, ID. email me direct at

riddlespokane@earthlink.net and I can try and help.
