thanks I was wondering if they made the side gears in the 33 spline like some of the drag race spools are. I also heard that there is a 40 spline count in the detriot. Is that right?

I am 99% sure the Detroit Locker does not come in 40. The only option availabale for a 40 spline axle is a full spool.

I checked on this a couple months ago. The biggest Detroit had available then was 35-spline. 40-spline was only available in a spool.

Before you go too far with this, you better do some more checking into the third member. I think you have to go to a big bearing third member for 35 spline axles. I've heard there are conversion bearings availble, but it's best to be sure before you pick up a $400 locker then find out you need another $500 to $600 for a new third member.

60 spline axle shafts.....now that is gonna be one hell of an axle shaft........ I'd venture a guess that it would be just under 3" in diameter. Pass the bong around.:D

As stated above, Detroit is available only in 28, 31, and 35 (that is as mfg by Tractech).

If you 35, you will need a big bore case (3.250). There isn't MUCH added cost to go with 35sp, ASSUMING you are buying a whole NEW axle....if you plan on using alot of old parts, i.e., 3d member, then it is significantly more $$ to go with 35 vs. 31.
