: chopper bike Vol. 2
ToyFamily 11-01-2003, 08:37 PM so after the first bike
....Which now rides on black rims and a 3 speed rear hub, which I built a suicide shifter behind my leg
Chemical442 11-01-2003, 08:38 PM boobs
ToyFamily 11-01-2003, 08:40 PM my roommate had to have one so I came up with this....it is 2" longer at the neck since he is taller
LandCroozer 11-01-2003, 08:51 PM How do you do those nice, smooth, large-radius bends? Doesn't looked discolored from a torch. Perhaps some sort of special bending apparatus? Do tell.
-tom
btw- Those are fawking awesome!
ToyFamily 11-01-2003, 08:57 PM special rolling machine at work.....gonna make 10 and see how it goes...getting upper neck and crank tubes machined and working on a deal to get some chromed...my next personal frame is gonna be polished alum, kinda going for total shine with a tan seat..
so...how much you asking for one?? i might be interested in picking up one similar to the first with the 3 speed and suicide shifter. man...those are SWEET!!!
bigNATEŽ 11-01-2003, 09:15 PM let me know when you have a non welded frame kit together and I will buy one, serious
Chemical442 11-01-2003, 09:19 PM i hope nobody sees these and runs out and steals your idea and starts cranking them out in mass pro. but then again, it wouldn't be the same as a one dude-made custom like these.
sweet rigs. :D
Jeepskickass 11-01-2003, 09:34 PM You need something like these for frame gussets...

ToyFamily 11-01-2003, 11:05 PM I'm doing a bike for a tatoo shop owner that has an iron cross gusset and rear tire mount...
rotozuk 11-01-2003, 11:09 PM Lets see a picture of you riding it..
Looks very sweet.

Po' riggity 11-01-2003, 11:34 PM Here's what Dallas made for his first bike.. Hes making a pink cadillac one for his GF, and he's gonna make another one for himself... I gotta get him to make me one... This one kicks ass!
http://www.stinkyfab.com/images/web/chopper1.jpg
I'd rather have different forks on mine, but he was using what he had left of another bike to build it, so it wasn't too expensive.. This one doesnt have brakes...

Are you are using something like this for the bends?

I used to use that wxact machine at my old work. very nice machine and you can do some pretty cool shit between that and a bender.
-Scott
rotozuk 11-02-2003, 11:43 AM I remember seeing a sand rail where the entire upper structure was a nice slow radius. Man that looked great.

Wilson 11-02-2003, 05:35 PM That's bitchin'!!!:D
StinkBug 11-02-2003, 11:52 PM Hell yeah man, that looks sweet. I actually just started on 2 more bikes today, one to replace the red one scott posted above, and one for my friend that works at HARO and gets me all the head tubes and bottom brackets. Next ones are gonna be saweet, but those long sweeping bends can be a BITCH without the right tools. I'm actually looking for a manual rolling machine, but dont know where to look or what they are actually called. We had one in my HS shop, and it could do some pretty cool stuff.
Dallas
ToyFamily 11-03-2003, 12:49 AM that's the machine...StinkBug, if you find a manual one let me know the info, I'd like to have one personally.....and I do like the second one a little better, I took more time into it....that is until I put the jockey shift and black rims on mine...now they're even.....now that a couple shops will be selling them I had to come up with a name so what do you guys think of "IMFAMOUS PEDDLERS"
StinkBug 11-03-2003, 12:57 AM I wish i knew who made that roller at my school. It was super simple, just 3 rollers with a big ass wheel on the side and an adjustment knob to push the top roller down between the other 2. Hell if I cant find one, I may just draw up the pieces needed in auto cad and build one myself.
BTW, I like the name.
Dallas
PTSchram 11-03-2003, 06:38 AM Pexto makes a nice three disc roller.

Spelling check: Infamous Peddlers.
those bikes are saweet!
ToyFamily 11-03-2003, 03:51 PM thanks for the spell check, it was a little late....
about the roller... if you ever watch American Chopper they have a manual roller , paul used it to make the spider web fenders out of cold roll...it looked pretty simple just gotta watch again and take note
FYRMAN 11-03-2003, 03:58 PM Price check please?
i got way bored...and though of some sweet things to do to these bikes if it's possible. anyone know the diameter of a MTN Bike rear rim?? just curious.
ToyFamily 11-03-2003, 05:20 PM those ones are 26"...my mtn bike rims are also 26"
tommybronco 11-03-2003, 05:49 PM Actually nick i was at sac raceway the other weekend and i saw 2 bikes that were stretched about 10" more than yours and had full suspention like a mountain bike i did not get a good look at them but they were the nicest i have ever seen and not ghetto like the lowrider bikes.

You talkin' shit? Ghetto is in son, don't hate the player, hate the game
the reason i was asking about rim size was because i got to thinking last night about a rear disk brake and maybe like an 8 speed cassette. i've found the rear hub that will allow both the 8 speed and hydrolic rear disk, but it's money. and that's not counting the rim and spokes. but...it'd be sick. ad far as the shifter, i really got to thinking, but i'm not sure that idea is possible.
tommybronco 11-03-2003, 09:59 PM by no means was i saying nicks shit is ghetto. I have been bugging hime to lend me a hand in chopifying my cruiser for a while now.
StinkBug 11-03-2003, 10:17 PM The actual tire makes a little bit of a difference. I'm running a 24" rim in the rear, but because of the HUGE tire they actually measure out to 25.5". BTW when they say its a 20, 24, or 26" wheel, thats actually the tire diameter, not the rim, which IMHO really doesn't make sense. The rims are always the same size no matter what the tire, but whatever, I didn't make the rules. :flipoff2:
Dallas
ok...but like for example...Dallas, you said your rear end could do a 26" tire/rim thingy. so...i'm just wondering if that's the same as a mtn bike, so i could use the disk brake ready rear hub. now...i just need to find a hydro brake lever without the built in shifter. i've got another SICK idea for that. just have to take one apart, and see if the like shifter itself can be remade and adapted to aa shift lever, maybe suicide position, with a little rat fink skull shift knob. daym, i've got to much time on my hands.
ToyFamily 11-04-2003, 01:09 AM I'll get a pic of my suicide shifter and maybe a ride pic ...
HighToy 11-04-2003, 09:40 AM I've been seeing these kinds of bikes all over now that I work downtown. Odd that I just started seeing them after your first post.

I don't see why you couldn't use that cassette, but I think Nick could fab something up for a disc brake out of some parts he's very familiar with....hint... hint ;)

Wilson 11-04-2003, 11:15 AM Nick, it'd be sick to find some fat ass tire for the back and a little bit bigger rim (dia) for the front with a skinny ass tire, like a chopper.

yeah...i know i could just use a rear hub with povisions for a cassette, but this one is shimano's special rear disk brake hub. so no need for brackets, their brake rotor just slides on and locks in place.
ToyFamily 11-04-2003, 05:06 PM the curent hub I have for the 3 speed is shamano, I like the way this 3 speed shit is inside the hub....(ain't been around this bike stuff for a long time) it was an easy change from one speed to three, just change the rim and bolt on the shifter...
and that is my little sister, she's way not legal.... only driving soon....but you can see her compete at the womens rockcrawling comps this year in a rock equipment razor!!!! just keep yer distance or I'll wrap the spotter strap around your neck :flipoff2:
oh...so there is no derailure setup, it's all just in the hub? that's cool. the setup that i'm looking at will require a derailure and a little bit of fabrication.
ToyFamily 11-04-2003, 05:23 PM yea, the internal gears were cool but the seller was that it also had a coaster brake...so I didn't even have to set up brakes...I'll get pics when I borrow my friends digi

HF has one with a crank instead of a wheel for $49, same principle though.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/36700-36799/36790.gif
Hell, use it once with the crank to roll out a wheel and you're set!:D
Nick, did you buy it new, or used? if new, that might be a selling point if you could make it an option.
ToyFamily 11-04-2003, 09:06 PM bought it new but...it was discounted b/c it wasn't selling and was hard for them to get anyway...?
DANGIT!!! that is NOT what i wanted to hear there nick!!
ToyFamily 11-05-2003, 12:08 AM I'll see what I can do
also...was it jsut the hub portion and you built a rim around it, or was it the entire wheel assembly?? it'd be cool to have that hub on a smaller rim similar to Dallas' frame and rear wheel. now i'm just being too picky!!:D :D
vw87c 11-05-2003, 03:03 AM internal planetary gear hubs are still available new.
http://bike.shimano.com/comfort/Nexus/index.asp
instead of looking at shimano road and mtb equipment you have to look at the comfort bike stuff. about ten years ago shimano was trying out some planetary mtb hubs too, dont know what ever happened it to it?
cobb,
as far as the question about building up the hubs with different rims, it should be no problem. go to a reputable wheel builder and they'll build you almost anything you want. 20", 24", 26" or even 700c rims on (almost) any hub. 48spoke radial laced spokes would look pretty cool on some of those machines.
sweet bikes.
Sweet bike, but you really need to buy my seat :D
$50
ToyFamily 11-26-2003, 09:16 PM getting stuff machined for 10 bikes next week
Harvester of Sorrow 12-05-2003, 02:49 PM UPDATES?????
It is the end of the week:rolleyes:
ToyFamily 12-05-2003, 05:04 PM I'm only buying him(machinist at shop) lunch, you can't be a dick for a favor.... he hasn't had time to get to it yet...
RedNeckRea 12-05-2003, 07:44 PM here's the bike my bud and I put together. not a chopped but still fun to ride.
RedNeckRea 12-05-2003, 07:46 PM the best part...
ToyFamily 12-16-2003, 05:26 PM OK..a little update..Well, since it's raining and they are not being ridden original two are taken apart and in the paint booth at work waiting to be hosed down (semi-gloss black on mine, peuter for the radius'd ).....and I am now putting a little pressure on the machinest...and working out the original bugs...you don't need to ride until its sunny anyway :flipoff2: ...sold the buggy so I am looking into a TIG in the rear future...so the next batch (of ten, 3 spoken for) MIGHT (am pretty sure but don't like to make false promises) be tig'd....working on the website...got some hotties to model the bikes....contact info:

ToyFamily 12-16-2003, 08:04 PM I saw it too.....it looked like the hacked beach cruisers like around here...
flimmy 12-16-2003, 08:13 PM I didn't get a good look at it, it just kinda cruised by and caught me by surprize. But the first thing I thought about was ToyFamily :D

Monkeyboy 12-16-2003, 09:13 PM I have pictures some place of the old Tandem that I had.
I turned a tandem into a single seat cruiser
It was long and low to the ground and a blast to ride.
I got a lot of funny looks though.
ToyFamily 12-17-2003, 06:12 PM I machined the crank tubes tonight...the headset tubes hopefully tomorrow...still have to build a decent jig
ToyFamily 12-18-2003, 07:38 PM headsets done today...got to get on the jig..
