: Reverse Manual Valvebody for AOD?

does anyone here know if a reverse manual valvebody for the AOD tranny exists?
im serioudly considering using this transmission behind my LS1. from what i have gathered, a built up aod should be a decent bit stronger than a th700r4, and not a big and combersome as a 4l80e.
can anyone comment on the upper limits of power that a built aod can handle?
thanks

i wouldn't go out of my way to put a ford tranny behind a GM though..

If it's a lentech AOD?

Gotta agree theu have some seriously built AOD's... But c'mon.. I don't think the time and effort would be any better off than having to redo a 700r4 a couple times..

thanks for the info guys.
my reasons for checking out the aod was from what i can gather, it can be built to handle a couple 100 more hp than a built 700r4 can (ill be right around the 500rwhp/500rwtq mark, which seems to be where you can forget about a 700r4 that lasts. i very much want OD, so that elimnated a TH400 (which would be the easy choice if i was going 3spd) and id like to avoid the computer controls and huge mass of the 4l80e although that is one beast of a transmission.
so im left with searching for some alternatives
that lentech valvebody looks sweet, but unfortunately, doesnt look to be avail. with comp braking in 1st.
thanks again guys

call em up, they will wheel and deal a bit to help out people, especially crossbreeders..if you are willing to put 2500-3 g out. and i think it will last quite a few years,

they have compression braking in first - I have a Lentech RV2000 AOD and love it! it has really good compression braking in first and second - I'd reccomend the low gearset too.

You can get a well built 700r4 will be just as strong, but will also cost just as much as a Lentech if its built correctly.

Hey JohnBuuu

How is the new rig coming??

My XJ is at the body shop right now getting the front cross member pulled after I ran into some one last week. Popped the Airbag, but virtually did not damge. ARB save my rig.

Anyhow I am trying to get some sh!t together to start ripping into my MJ that you saw that time at that park in VA.

I have got a Scout here with donor 44's and I also have three other D44 axles that my uncle has given me. The one front 44 has 3.73 in it and has been totally rebuilt rotor to F150 rotor with all ne bearings, seals, rotors, calipers, and 5on5?? F150 pattern hubs. It is a 62"WMS Narrow Trac Waggy front.

So I am leaning towards an AX15 D300 combo. I really wish that I lived close to some one that had some interest in what it is that I am doing...

Anyhow let me know how your rig is coming along.

Hi ben - I disagree about the 700 - I have a 700 that will live all day behind 600hp, and it costs MUCH less than any of the lentech AOD's - even with my $600 converter.

This is the Ultimate 700R4! This transmission is built for EXTREME Performance oriented cars and trucks. This transmission is built to handle up to 600 horsepower.

These are the transmissions I use in all the installs we do here - and we're currently putting one in the bronco formerly known as "Black Cloud" (coby's), behind his stroker 351... They actually developed most of the hard part upgrades that they other builders are using right now. Oh, and there's no core charge on top of that.

Now that's not to say that the lentech are anything to sneeze at - they're great! But too $$$ for my blood...

MHO..

I could have sworn the 700s were more expensive - oh well - For the main poster here - your referenced site may be the ticket for him since its going on a bowtie already.

I'm still up in the air for an EB (or other SB Ford) though. With a $600 converter - the 700r4 built to the same specs as my rv2000 (600+ HP/TQ) costs $2300 and has a one year defect warranty. For $2500 I got a lifetime defect warranty, a custom converter with three years of free re-work if needed on the converter, and a semi-manual valve body with compression braking in 1st and 2nd.

For what was actually needed in my EB - yes the 700r4 would probably been cheaper, however, once all the adapters etc figure in, it would be close to a wash for what I needed. The lentech has arguably stronger hard parts in 1-3. The 700r4 does have the upper hand on the low gearing and a gear driven OD instead of the OD band of the AOD.

Luckily I didn't know about the 700r4 conversion when I got my Lentech, otherwise it would have taken me longer to decide which to get :D

Well, FWIW - you don't NEED a $600 converter. I did that simply because I wanted to give Midwest a try, and I got a killer deal. Coby's bronco is getting a $250 converter that will be more than enough for it. I just overkill everything. ;-)

True, 1 yr warranty. However, my experience has been that as long as you followed their instructions on setup, that they'll take care of you down the road.

Bowtie will do a full manual valvebody if you wish - however, most of my customers drive their EB's on road too, and I think it nearly ruins the road manners of the trans.

Adapters keep coming down in price - I'm selling the 700 adapter now for what my cost was a year ago...

Lentech is killer though - wish I could afford their trans, they make amazing stuff!

wow, thank you guys for all the input.
i keep having to reconsider the 700r4 (although honestly, im still pretty apprehenisve that the first time I spray (100shot) that im going to see pieces of my nice new transmission laid out all over the road/trail for me.

also, Kincade, could you elaborate on the rev manual VB ruining the road manners of the trans. i dont plan on the jeep being a full on daily driver, but it will see road duty a few times a week im sure, so id like to hear input there.

appreciate all the info so far fellas.

can you please elaborate on this?
they sound like alot of fun to use, and i really like the idea of shifting manually, without a clutch, but am also somewhat concerned with driveability on road.
id appreciate your thoughts...
thanks

it is a pia and you can still cause fatal damage depending on the setup. if you take off in od with the ford it could be over for the direct shaft and clutches with just a stab at the throttle,..with the gm there are burn issues with clutching and bands if you oops it too much. with this type of trans..definatly not a truck you will let someone else drive.
