i searched a little bit, read parts of billavista's driveshaft 401 article... but i haven't found the basics that I need to know

when the vehicle is at rest on flat ground, how much slippage should be available in the shaft?...

i.e. how much will the shaft compress or extend during suspension flex?

when the vehicle is at rest, should the driveshaft be right in the middle of its possible extension or compression?...

thanks..

There isn't going to be a very easy answer.
You need to know what your suspension does.

My front drive shaft extends as the springs are compressed and comes back as the springs return to center.

A rig with a shackel reversal act very different.

Do you have a picture of your rig with the tire off, so we can see the spring?

no, but i have a mangled yoke and flange that lead me to believe the driveshaft was too short :D

i will look and see if i have a flex shot somewhere..

mark your current shafts and see what they do as you cycle your suspension. my rear expands while my front colapses....

i'm 90% sure the rear d-shaft collapses on my rig too..

that's where I am right now.. I have a damaged t-case flange, and a damaged d-shaft yoke, so as soon as I can replace those I can put a d-shaft back in... but i think i will shorten it a bit before I re-install it...
