I plan on cutting and turning my knuckles over Christmass break and i was wondering if it was ok to reweld it with a regular MIG welder.

Thanks, Michael

when you set the castor (+1 degree??) where do you set the protractor? On the kingpin race?

I have done a few and set the castor to +3.5 to +4 degrees and it worked well at that setting. As how I checked it, I use a Howe castor & camber gauge with the magnetic mount like this one

I welded my perches where they had to be. then clamped the housing w/ the perches @ 0d . I then rotated the knuckle w/ a pipe in the knuckle housing. using a $5 angle finder rotated the knuckle to +4d. be sure & use a pipe that fits snug in the knuckle. also I would recomend using a grinder w/ a cut off wheel to cut the knuckle as this makes the knuckle turn real easy (I used a 3' bar @ it roated w/ about 30lbs of force. if you already haven't look in the archives. there is some great info in there.

Yes, the knuckle race is a reasonable place to measure the castor.
Unless you know you have a surface that is absolutely flat and level, it is useful to use the original SUA perch as a reference point, as the factory castor angle is +1 degree with reference to the spring perch. That way if you turn your pinion up, you can measure how much by comparing the new perch and old perch angles and then add this amount to the amount that you have to turn the knuckle back.
