: super-birfields...

OK, so lets say that I want to get some super birfields (longfields/Smurfields). Next weakest link in the drive train would be the axle inner shafts. So I decide to get some 300M axle shafts made up. That's all fine and good. But, what is the next weakest link? Do the birfields become the next weak link? Do the side gears in the diff become the next weakest link? The hubs?

Thanks!

The next weakest link is your ability to lay off the skinny pedal.:D

wait, so are you getting at that if i press the skinny peddle down as far as it will go all time i'll break stuff??? i didnt know a 383 stroker could break anything?!?

Guess this is why im getting so many posts here :flipoff2:

I would have to say the studs holding the locking hubs on the wheel hub would be the next week link

Put it all together and let us know what brakes when it brakes.

My guess is the hub internals or the super birf. That is if the inners are made without the groove that the clip goes in right next to the birf. With a sleeve like cruiserbrett? had made. The Allpro inners break right at the stress riser in that groove.

The studs are very strong on the Aisin hubs if kept at the proper torque.

I have been reading some stuff on the Minitruck section and they are breaking cromemoly axels with the superberfs:eek: so I guess they are quite the upgrade!

My guess would be ring and pinion.
A bud of mine stripped a bunch of teach off his ring gear with Longfields. (on his toy mini)

So the question is what would you rather change on the trail? birfields or thirdmembers?

maybe one of those warn fuse kits for there hubs is not a bad idea? That would be much easier to change than a birf/inner axel/third member!

C'mon James. You've got a long way to crazy before you really have to be worrying about this. Upgrade your birfs and you'll be happy for quite a while I think. Carry a couple spare inners if it makes you feel any better.

My two cents is that the hubs are most likely what will go next, especially if you're running warn hubs. I think the Aisin's will long outlive the warns. Bottom line is that I'd MUCH rather change a hub on the trail than a birf, or inner, or third.

Keep your hub studs torqued down, and the ring and pinion would be the weak link.IMO

Adam: Haven't heard from you for a while. Here, or on WCML. I was wondering if you were still around! Thought you might have gone the way of Randy H! J/K! I assume it's work. It often seems to be with you.

I guess you could say it is work. I've been off of work for a few weeks. Getting a little comp time after the hellacious past year. :D Problem is, I got a bunch of stuff going on other than work and you still might not see me much for a while.
