: pics of buggy springs @ full flex
iamquaker 12-14-2001, 06:39 PM need some pics of buggy springs @ full flex.
also have some questions about this kind of setup. do you have to be SOA? are there any bad side effects to a buggy sprung rig? i still have the stock springs from when i lifted my jeep and it just seems like a great use for them.
wheelinjps gal 12-14-2001, 06:39 PM What a tease I wanted to see some pics:flipoff2: :D
66CJdean 12-14-2001, 06:49 PM Go to the post about stretching a CJ5 and I have pic up of my rig and the rear buggie is pulled off about 10" or so. I like my buggies!
iamquaker 12-14-2001, 07:18 PM oops...
i guess my title was a little misleading.
iamquaker 12-14-2001, 07:23 PM could not find your post about the cj5?

Raker, what are you talking about? name a 1/4 ellip without loads of rear steer. Before I redid my whole Jeep, Red WHite and Blue one above, I had barely any, but when you get THAT much rear flex, it is gonna want to steer and walk. Now that we got that out oif the way, I know you and your friends out there have built some, so do tell me about yours? does yours have any rear steer? and if you say no, you are lying, because I saw pics of it, and it is just as bad as mine.

YJ4RoX 12-16-2001, 04:43 PM Rock Toy Here is another 1/4 Ellip shot:
Dude Im not bashing or anything, I know 1/4 elip causes rear steer but daumm. You already have the tube frame in the rear why not run coil overs? Your Flatty is sweet but I would think the coilovers would reduce the rear steer and make the flex more functional. But what the hell do I know, if it works why fawk with it:)

The coilovers will also walk, only not as bad. the 4 link causes the axle to move in an arc, causing the rear axle to walk. The reason I did not run coilovers is because of the money involved. You got $1000 to loan me? But you are right. I do however like the 1/4 ellip on there. It works well. In that poic, I rolled over the rear tire. If I put shocks and limiting straps on, I would be fine.
Dimtiri
YJ4RoX 12-17-2001, 07:46 AM Sorry man no loan for coilovers, im broke. I thought there were no limiting straps on there. I understand the rearsteer problem and how you cant eliminate it entirely I just thought your looked a little excessive. I know all about running on a budget man, If it works, I got no complanits:D

I think maybe this was covered above, but if you have that much flex, you are going to have rear steer. The reason for it is the arc in which the axle travels. So, if you had coilovers with the same length control arm to reach about where the mounting point of the spring is, it would give about the same amount (assuming your coilover could extend that far). So, how can you beat this? Extremely long control arms? Is there any other way?

BTW, Avalanche Engineering has done a 1/4 elliptic on a newer model Cherokee, if I am not mistaken.
mudlite 12-17-2001, 12:11 PM When you are talking 'buggy' I guess you are refering to '3/4 Eliptic' and not 1/4 eliptic? This is a close up of my set up. KISS.
Simple, Cheap, Flexy, Streetable.

make the roll axis centered for both upper and lower arms. Triangulate both. There will be some rear steer going on, but with with traingulated upper and lower arms it should be minimal... that is not noticable. BTW stock linked suspensions have this happen as well, they just dont flex enough for it to become an issue.

IAMQUAKER ... THESE are buggy springs... the others are 1/4 elliptics
zstrange 12-23-2001, 11:53 AM tigger4x, got any other pics of the frankenmonster? always like to see other freaky full sizes. i drive a pretty f**kedup looking j-10. will work on some pics of my own.
tigger4x 12-23-2001, 12:08 PM I'd like to but don't have any way to get the uploaded to my 'puter.

Triangulated upper and lower....hmmmmmm. For some reason, I have never thought of that. It would work, though. My bro-in-law and I are doing a V8/solid axle swap in a 'Yota right now, I will see if that wouls be possible on it. Do you have any pics? What binding do you have to watch for? What length do you try to keep them in relation to one another? What about he frame mount points, is one higher than the other?
Yeah, I know the factory links have it, that is why I said when you felx that much.

Also, wouldn't this put huge stress on the two joints at the frame? With only the upper arms triangulated, you get a lot of support from the lowers (from a motion trying to twis the axle against the arms). Would it be street safe, you think?
-Bart
EDIT: You must be turning them in opposite directions right? I mean, you have 3 joints on the frame? I would like to see some pics, esp twisted up. Do you have problems with the drive shaft?
Wolverine 12-24-2001, 04:35 PM those are some sick pics what trial is that first jeep on looks like fun I see vova in the back round.
WideJ 12-24-2001, 06:51 PM wow, you four link wet dreamers need to look at the god of suspension thread... search for it, its hours of fun!

As for the God of suspensions... Well, that guy can regurgitatie better than anyone I know.
