: 37's on a YJ....rubbing

yep
4.5" RE spring under
1" B/L

i have been running 35's with no rub on full stuff. to fit these, i took off flares and cut all four corners and have NO front fenders.

now the front 37's are rubbing the inside of wheel-well..the rear of the well if you know what i mean?

the front tires were also hitting the springs but that was an easy fix.....just extended the steering stop bolts.

no problem with the rear tires as i can see YET :)

anybody else out there with this similar set-up?

i am going SOA soon but i don't see where that will be a difference in this rub.

right on
i have run some of the toughest trails in AZ and have only spun one u-joint on the 30 with 35's.

i know it will be a challenge to slide through on the 37's but i will give it a go for awhile. i am throwing in a 44 when i do the SOA this winter.

I posted a while back asking about redrilling springs, and the general consensus is that it is a bad idea because the spring is very prone to breakage. Your best bet would be to find some springs with some offset. JC Whitney 7 leaf heavy duty front waggy springs are a good choice. They will provide about 1.5" lift. Also, Rancho 44044's are the waggy 2" lift springs, which will be near 3.5-4" lift on a YJ, although these do settle and you may end up nearer 2" of lift. The Rancho springs are 6 leaf also (I think). But they would allow you to move your front axle forward 2".

It is. But redrilling the spring PERCH is OK.
Or, you can clearance the firewall where they currently hit. If you're happy with the height and flex now, then I suggest modifying the body to match, rather than considering new springs. Cut out all metal that hits now, and make a scalloped firewall there. Beware of wires and little things like, oh, ECUS :D
Dunno what's all around there on Heeps, but Toys have some important stuff right there.

BDS waggy lift springs are 4.5"-5" of lift on a YJ.

right on

i am going to try and make clearance in the wheelwell rather than fawk with the springs. i am hitting the well at pretty much full stuff and then turn at the same time. the 35's NEVER hit there so it can't take too much to clear since the 37's are only 1" larger in radii.

the drivers side has the windshileld washer bottle and rad overflow bott. the pass side has a vacuum/smog thingy and a battery tray support. i will try to beat and or cut out some of that flimsey sheet metal:flipoff2:

Are you hitting the front of the rear of the wheelwell? I thought it was the rear (firewall side) which is harder to clearance. The front should be easy, hell, if you're into it, you don't even need to close the hole you make :D

well yeah

the front of the rear of the wheelwell.........that's the side facing the TIRE :)

i am just beating the well in towards the firewall. i am leaving the rad and windshield bottles attached and they will just move with the sheet metal. it worked out fine. i will take it out tomorrow and see how much more if any i need to fawk up:flipoff2:

i just forgot that the best way to make room for bigger tires is to:

HAMMER
CUT
GRIND

I meant "the front or the rear". Anyways, it sounds like you're actually hammering the front clip, or the radiator core support, not the firewall. Unless you have a radiator mounted on your firewall...

Doesn't matter, beat the fawk out of whatever hits. If it doesn't move, beat it harder :D

right on...front,rear....fawk it:flipoff2:

i beat in the wheelwell and cut more off the rear body around the rear tires..........

did highway to hell, a 4.5+ trail and NO rubbing :)

and the little 30 held up just fine on 37's:flipoff2:
