ok so i need anew carb mine is an old ebay special and rebuilding it doesn't seem to appealing to me. So heres what i got a 1970 for 360 mild cam edelbrock intake manifold slightly oversized valves stock compression bored .30 over. Not sure if i should get a 650 700 or 750 cfm and which model i like edelbrock parts but how good do you all think the new holley truck avenger would do on this engine.
Any input is appriciated

I've had good luck a 600 vac sec, elec choke holley on both my broncoII, and my F-150. They start good when its cold, and don't kill me on mileage.
Everyone says how bad they are on angles, but I've never had a problem with either of them, maybe I'm just lucky.

600 edelbrock.. you don't need more than a 600.. Unless you happen to need enough airflow to spin that baby to 10k rpm.
anyways, I've used and like edelbrock carbs.. But then again I haven't used anything else either.

i'd agree on the edelbrock, I ran a 600 on my 360 and it really woke that motor up. However, the carb does ave some problems for running around in the hills, nothing major but if you do a search it's pretty well covered.

i have found the 600 Ede works great off angle with the offroad needle and seat combined with a cheapo adjustable fuel pressure regulator. when crawling, i set it on 3psi. i agree with others... the edie can be alot better truck carb than the Holley.

If you are willing to learn to, and then tune a carb, the Holly is as good a square bore carb as ever built. They are not great out of the box performers on anything... and especially a truck. Change the accelerator pump cam...power valve, jet and tune it to your engine, and it will outperform a Edelbrock easily in both power and economy. Off road worries can be easily addressed with some float baffles/whistles and needle and seat modifications...venting the fuel bowls properly is also a good idea.... I have built countless like this and they will run at ANY angle you can make a carb run...the ONLY carb better at angles is a slightly modified Quadrajet....and well....we are talking square bore carbs so i will just reserve my opinion on what I would be running given free choice.
If you don't want to mess with it...can live with weird and eratic idle mixture issues that change with the weather, road conditions, and your womans hormone cycle, then by all means run a edelbrock...as they work resonably well, but no matter how much I tune on mine it can't outperform the tweaked Holley...as for size...600 is probably adequate but Fords like big carbs and a 750 on a Big block seldom gives up much milage if any and usually works better when buzzed...but I would probably still run a 600 on your application and I am sure you would be happy.

oddly enough, i have never had tuning issues with my Eddie. i havent touched it since i rebuilt it 2 years ago. since he asked about the truck avenger, ill give my opinion on the model.
its $410. thats alot of dough to spend on something that will eventually puke gas in the motor off-camber. holley has a generic GM throttle body injection kit that will work fine on your motor for under $750. take that $400, put it under your mattress, and when you get $350 more go ahead and EFI it. its also the easiest install kit on the market.
