I'd check all the ubolts, shackles/bolts, ujoints, steering linkage (slop). Also, you might want to jack up the tires and yank on the wheels to see if there is any slop in the bearings (I had to replace both sets of front wheel bearings just after getting my scout). There's also stuff like cracks in the frame around spring hangers and steering box. Thats what I get off the top of my head. Basically, check everything that's checkable. Breaking down at mile 150 would suck. good luck

Just take a cell phone and tow money.

Take a grease gun and hit the U joints. Check the tires real good and carry a spare.:)

I just get in and go, then again I've never asked my scout to go that far without a tow rig :D. Oh, stop by 7-11, fill up and pick up your favorite beverage.

nice. you should also make sure there is plenty of rot, these 2 things will assure you it is a scout. oh ya, make sure all the brake lines are in good shape, take a video camera and a lot of pics...but definitly check the brakes, there will be a cool story about this if you don't die....even if you don't make it all the way. good luck
