Ok first I searched and only found one post asking a ? with no replies. Not that I'm defensive or anything

My buddy has a J@@p with the AMC 304 and a leaky Rear Main Seal (RMS). I cant get him to go wheeling until he gets it fixed.

So here is the question.

He thinks its a 2 part seal (top+bottom). He has heard of a kit that lets you thread a piece of rope through the top and then bottom with only taking the oil pan off. Also he has heard that you can replace the only 2 piece seal with a 1 piece that hardly ever leaks.

The leak leaves about 1/2 cup on the groud if left over night. Too big for a cheap fix (stopleak etc.).

So what ya'll think..and venders/part numbers if you have. Thanks guysNgals

Generally you pull the pan and the rear main cap, the upper half of the seal can be slid out with a little pressure, it will rotate around the journal and come out.. the new half just has to be slid in, the bottom side is a simple pop in deal..

Good Luck..
