Just a quick FYI for those who are relatively new to the board....with all the tech questions coming up, one of the first things people replying will respond with is "Didja check www.ih8mud.com (http://www.ih8mud.com) yet??"

I've collected the online tech info from dozens of individuals...it's ALL cruiser related, and there is lots of interesting stuff on there, including links to the PBB tech stuff. Take the time to check it first, then come back with your specific questions.

Again, that's http://www.ih8mud.com

We now return you to your regularly scheduled posting.

you need a set of 28.5''x9'' co op grip spurs. They kick ass Or better yet ,I will trade ya my dirt diggin donuts for those little tires you have. I need better gas mileage and better road handling. In fact we can just swap tires in Clayton.

Believe it or not I have dealt with a guy that wanted to make a lowered FJ40 (he thought it would make it handle
better :rolleyes
Remember Nolen?

Hey mace, I have been trying to find that picture of the "slammed" FJ-40 we found for that guy.....where was it ebay?

And Woody,

When I put my truck in 4x4 why don't all the wheels spin?

I'll answer each question in turn...

Nolen, the biggest tire you can fit on an FJ40 is a 175-70R14...anything bigger than that will guarantee body damage, and you may scratch that pretty chrome fender trim rings I know you pride yourself in polishing every evening...I also suggest a street tread, so you don't needlessly throw road debris up in your fenders when you hit the local high school Friday Night Drags....

Nolen, the BEST ever made mud wheels for a Toyota Jeep are the Dunlop SP Sport 9000. These are a excellent directional tire and are available in the sizes that will fit your lift and driving capabilities well. The smallest size they are available in is 195-55ZR-15, so it may require installation of a custom suspension lift...I suggest contacting Weenie Boyz OffWoad for their advice on suitable lifts. The tires can be reviewed at http://www.dunloptire.com/products/tire.html?tire=sp_sport_9000

Ironpig70...you can lower your FJ40 Jeep thru the use of block....adding a 4-5" plastic block between the leaf pack and the axles will provide you with the hillbilly look you are looking for. A set of the Dunlops mentioned above will also provide that extra racy feeling....also, adding a silver pinstripe down the side of your pig will easily shave .4-.6 seconds off your quarter mile times.

orangefj45wagin, the 640 pontiac is not a good choice for you...the factory 3 speed is just too high quality of a tranny to be wated behind this weenie little engine. Honestly, the best performance choice for your cruiser is to upgrade to an early carburated suzuki samurai motor. This excellent engine, mated to either your 3-speed or a race-prepped Muncie will provide you with some unbelieveable ET's on the track, as well as some eye catching looks from the people you'll see on the highway.

Nolen, if your truck doesn't spin in 4x4, then you need to buy a new truck. It's my only suggestion...only vehicles built within the last 2-3 years can be relied on to start every morning, handle the commute to the elementary school whose lunch room you monitor, and still take you off the beaten path and thru all those fresh rain puddles we know you love so well.

Gentlemen, I thank you for your support, and encourage you to write tech reports based on your findings so that I may include this important information as links on the IH8MUD.com website.

Dan, I'll be flying into Atlanta this weekend specifically to address the neon issue with you....I'm staying at the Hyatt Regency on Peachtree, arriving Sat afternoon 4:30ish and flying back out on Wednesday.

We'll hook up Sat night and talk hydraulics and suspensions....

I'm thinking it's because your Dodge is a 2WD.

Maybe we can get the moderater to put one of those "sticky" things in the title that makes it stay on top?

A friend of mine saw a FJ40 slammed to the ground up here in Vancouver once. My friend rolled down his window and yelled obscenities and the guy was so proud of it too.

Krusty, i also do not mind answering question and already approached Jeff about this. He stated that enough people were eager enough to keep answering the questions that we didn't need a "sticky". maybe if enough "vets" sent him PM's, he might reconsider.

gotta woody a thumbs up spent today while priate was down at 1h8mud.com looked at alot of stuuf. maybe i didn't look in the right spot but i didn't see much that talked about the hybrid landcruiser. i'm building one with full width axles chevy motor t-case and tranny. so i still have issues to deal with:)

I think Woody's site is mostly for the - dare I say - "run of the mill" Cruiser conversion stuff that most people do. The full size Dana axle swap stuff is more the domain of the General Discussion board, and here to some extent.

woody
11-17-2001, 07:24 PM
the "run of the mill" mods include sm465's, TC changes, etc, but since no one has done an online tech report on D60's into a Cruiser, that's not there yet.

However, a new section just started yesterday will work on info regarding suspension terminology....

So who's gonna do the first writeup on D60 conversions into a Fj40??!?!??!!?
