: Dana 60 Inner Axle Shaft Question

I just got done setting the 6.17's up in a friends front Dana 60, and found something interesting I need help with.

He got this front Dana 60 and has no idea what it came out of. The long side inner axle shaft is standard Dodge / Chevy length, and my spare 35 spline inner / out fits perfect. the passenger side however is approximately 2" shorter than standard Dodge / Chevy parts.

This axle looks like a mid to late 70's Dodge due to the shock mounts, the 8 bolt external drive flanges and the narrow width of the studs on the pumpkin compared to my Chevy front 60.

What came with a front 60 that is about 2" narrower than a stock Dana 60 from a Chevy 1 ton, only on the short passenger side pumpkin side, and does anyone know the part number for the short shaft?

Thanks in advance!

the late dodge has the Pass side drop short side is the same size as Ford late model short side !

this is the one you want so it does not turn in reverse !!

Ahhhh Sooooo!

You are wise to teach grasshoppah such things dear grandfather.

Lemme start digging in the books for that one. Seems strange about the drive flanges, but you never know what someone may have done on the hubs.

Thanks!

my 90s dodge 60 is NOT the same length as a chev short side.
it is 2" narrower then a chev.
I have read the difference is in the short shaft only.
so sounds to me like you have a stock dodge 60.
from end of shaft to centre of yoke
short side, right around 16"
long side, right around 35"

Great! Sounds like what that one must be. Any idea what the Spicer Part number is?

Try 660182-1.

Have them look up the specs in the Spicer book though.

Sounds like an older Dodge to me, too. I've heard the they are about 2" narrower than a Chevy, with one inner shaft being the difference.

BTW late model ('94+) Dodges have Driver's side drop, not passenger.
