This one is really old. I came across a '67 Bronco with front drum brakes in the boneyard. It looks like a Dana 44, but because it's so old, do you guys know for sure if it is indeed a Dana 44??? Also, I appreciate the advise about what axles and years to look for, but so far this is the best I've been able to spot in the boneyard. They have a '79 Bronco, but it is fullsize. Anyway, does anyone know what is involved in converting to front disk???

By the way, I will be using leaf-springs with this axle, so I will need to cut a lot of stuff off the axle. Does anyone know off-hand if I can cut off everything and still be left with just the axle-tubes? In other words, are there any cast-in, integral parts of the axle-tubes that can-not be cut off???

Unless it's been swapped, a '67 would have had a Dana 30. The Dana 44 started production in the middle '72. All rears are 9 inchers. A full size 79 (if it's high pinoin) is pretty easy to modify and stuff under a EB frame. Disks are a pretty easy swap, every major EB vendor sells a kit of some level to do it. Or you can do a boneyard swap. Not sure what works though. But the 76 and 77 had disks, and I picked up a 77. For more on axles try and find one with a 4.10 or 4.11 ratio, a good big bearing 9 inch is always a plus when you decide to go to bigger tires.
Hope this gets you started...

44/30 comp (http://www.broncohio.com/tech/dana30dana44.html)
the link will show the dif between a 30 and a 44.
It's most likely a 30 and they are peaty much worthless unless.
If you want to do coils and you can get all the stuff cheap then you can get setup and moving with the 30 and then find an EB 44 that's a direct swap out for the 30.
PM me where the yard is if your not going to get it, I have a 67 that needs some stuff.

Monster,
did you just want it for the frt axle? If you're looking for an early Bronco frt D44 I have one. It's under my 72, with 79 Bronco disk swapped on. It's 4.10 geared, open, and has not been driven since rebuilding everyt hing from the inner knuckles out.....ball joints, brakes, spindle bearings, wheel bearings, steering u-joints, etc.
