I have an Eaton axle out of a 65 chevy. Is this any good as far as strength?I was thinking of putting it in my CJ-5,Along with a D44 I have.Is it worth the effort?Keep in mind I have this axle so no extra $ to spend.I know it has 17 spline shafts and they are like 1.5" equal to a d60.It has 4.56 gears in it and open so it would need locking.Any available? If not I will weld.Any opinions? Thanks Blazin:rasta:

from the research I've done I think they are great axles.
in fact I'm trying to trade my 14 bolt for one.
everyone gets hoped up on spline counts but I'd bet a 17 spline axle shaft that is 1.5 inches thick is stonger then a 30 that is only 1 inch thick, or at least equal.
My vote
run it
plus it's round at the bottom and thus might slide over stuff easier.
what t case are you running?

What has a 1" 30 spline axle? The 14 has 1 1/2" 30 spline.
Detroits were available for the Eatons (factory option, I believe), but they are no longer made. You'd have to either find a used on or weld it.

I have a 465/205 combo for it.I am going to look at a trans a friend has I think it is a 420 if it is I am going to run that.As far as a motor I was going to use a sb chevy 400 but the wifes 454 decided to eat a bearing so the 400 is going in her Sub.That leaves me with a 350 4 bolt that needs rebuilding and the 454.I am leaning on the 454.Should help keep the front down!I think the Eaton actually has a shaft size of 1.58".I think it is going in!Thanks Blazin:rasta:

Pumpkins are great. 14bolt detroit locker fits in chunk but you have to use 14bolt axles (35 spline) . This is an easy swap.

GET IT!!! And run it!!!
I've got one - with 5.14's, discs and a detroit :D
They are easy to convert to disc also.
If you can kill it - it's time for 2.5 ton's :D:D:D
