just wondering if someone has built a bumper mounted towbar for a cruiserand documented the materials used and pics of the assembly?

I just got mine from JC whitney. I think it was close to $100-150 range. It has just one bolt through the middle of the bumper mount, nothing special.

I used a smitty built tow bar and 3/16" channel bumper. Welded the mounts and through bolted one side (the other side bolted would stick into the frame horn meaning notching the frame which I do not want to do).


..only problem w/ cruisers is the non lock steering and make sure the t-case is in neutral (and tranny). Don't go too far....

thanks for the info. why not tow a long way? cruisers are not automatics.....everything that gets oil driving gets oil towing. i am just trying work out the logistics of picking up that cruiser in fresno and don't want to rent a trailer or dolley when i could buy or build a towbar which i need anyway.

Do yourself a favor and rent a tow dolly, Been there done that. Another little tidbit-Cruisers don't flat tow well without an engine!!! <IMG SRC="smilies/skull.gif" border="0">

Before I went to a SO I used to flat tow my cruiser everywhere. Multiple 400+ mile trips (each way) I never disconnected anything. Just made sure that the tranny and tcase were both in neutral. Denver to Vegas was not a problem at all.
I always thought they towed really well...
