need pics of frames cuz my sami's sitting in the rain and I don't have room quite yet for it in the shop.
just got my frame material all together and trying to set in stone the plan for my sami's build up. New frame is being built out of 2x4 .185 wall tubing. I'm debating suspension types right now. going links for the aprouch(sp?) angles.got any ideas. seen the spider trax rear 1/4 setup looks good but I'd like to get my links up hire for more clearance (bent the ones on my toy a few times). I've ordered the ott kicker and the toy adapter so I'll be clocking the toy case for some clearance (if the drive lines let me).

Why not use the stock frame? They seem to be plenty strong, I've never heard of any problems...anyone?

theres one pic of mine.....lots more on site
well mainly cuz I can build one. Allways wanted to build one from scratch. It'll be a bit of work but when it comes down to building
custom suspensions ect it should be easier than moding a stock dirty frame. I'm extending the wheelbase running different running gear (1.6l, tranny ott kicker and toy tcase).
nice for tying in the cage ect and most of all it gets the old brain working.
I can't help you with the pictures or specs other than most of the angles are around 20 degrees (range from 18.5 to 21.5 and vary a little from truck to truck). I used 20 degrees on all of my angles and it fit nicely with the contours of the body.
I'm wondering why you want to use .185? .120 is beefy enough. Stock is almost half the thickness of .120. TJ frames are roughly .120 and they hold up fine to 5.9L's atlas II's and big diffs. Just my opinion but I think you may just be adding more weight than is necessary. I run a 4.3L vortec, a 700R4 and a d300 with d44 so I wanted to run a custom set up to fit everything where I want it and to give me a little more strength. The custom frame is heavier (by how much I don't know since I don't have the stock one anymore) but I think my powertrain will be more than adequate to compensate. Oh yeah, another bonus, you can also eliminate that annoying gap between your clip and the frame which lessens the leverage your winch has on it's mounting points...
Just my .02 (.0314 CDN):D

I'm using the .185 wall cuz I have it. I'm going to loss alot of weight not running the fenders ect and going to make fiberglass or aluminum panels for the rear half of the sami. Also the frame will only be half of a stock one well close to it cuz I'm building the rear out of tubing well thats the plan anyhow we'll see what happens.

I've got a LWB Samurai frame (my future farm pick up work horse!) lying around behind the barn; what do you want pictures of?
Also have a TracKick SWB frame, if you want pics let me know.
I'll second the 0.120 tube thoughts. Any larger and you'll need a mucho big engine to move it. Steel is cheap, save the thick stuff for bumpers, rockers, etc.

I've got it all figured out now .185 aint that heavy easily pick up a 24' length with 2 people and theres no way I'll have more than 15' of it in the frame.
